So how many of you actually use the e-brake when you slide?

E-brake is your friend, you can use it to begin a slide, to correct, to not hit the person in front of you in a tandem... etc.... IMO try different methods, i notice many of you go with what you are used to... throw that out the window and try different things, thats how you learn and how you become better.... Like other have said you have to tune it accordingly you dont want to jank on the thing like it was a train....

Raffi, you gotta stop assuming more than what I say. In no way did I even imply that the ebrake is a bad thing. Read again dude. I did and I still can't see how I could have possibly meant that it's not something good to have.

All I mentioned was that the e-brake is used for more than simply initiations to give an idea of how useful the ebrake can really be. I wanted to write a post like Warren's, but it was 3am, and I've been waking up at 7am this week to go to work... so I decided to be brief.

In case you don't remember, I was decked 6 points off my final score (scoring 4 out of 15) at Charlotte Qualifier for being the one with the e-brake entries. ;)

true true!

^^^ yes, thats very important. By pumping the ebrake, ur car is in more of a controllable slide, other than just yankign it and getting extreme oversteer. At countyline, i enter with enertia(i dont know if its spelled that way) meaning momentum and i pump my ebrake at the same time.

i enter with early entry clutch kick while rompping on the gas for a few seconds then pump e-brake for that long extension into the turn while keeping the RPM Revved up high for the clutch to go back down to continue on the course....works great!!!

to me it depends on the track, a course like the last fairgrounds figure 8 didnt need e brake at all but like the moroso kart track before they moved the start line up was an ebrake entry if you wanted to be a bit early.

Its funny I've been accused of useing it alot and my E36 is the fist car with a working ebrake that ive driven.

but yeah the brake is a very useful tool and mastery of its uses opens up alot of possible lines and courses.

i love my ebrake!! its a gift from god, use it! its another tool in ur pocket to rape a track with!

from what im told "stomp on my clutch as soon as you jerk your wheel" but im also trying new methods using clutch step, shift lock (iv stopped doing that) and ebrake and what nots, what ever floats your boat. style wise..

i was kinda pissed i put in a brand new e brake cable and thought it was adjusted right i tried it a few times on the skid pad at countyline and it wouldnt lock. I need some new brakes asap LMAO

When you're first learning to drift all you hear is how gay ebrake is and "bla bla bla..." but it's funny because all that shit talking usually comes from people who don't actually drift. My first drifts ever were ebrake initiated. I think it teaches good hand/foot coordination and it seems less scary when you're doing it. Now I pretty much never ebrake initiate, but I use it a lot to extend slides, correct line, etc. Watch Japanese in car D1 type stuff, take notes, go practice.

Damn i don't know how many times i've told people these exact words.

I see alot of people are having issues getting their rear wheels to lock. What i've seen most of the time is people pulling the ebrake pre-weight transfer or pre-slide and then think their ebrake doesn't work. Watch in car D1 video and watch outside video of some of the smaller tracks.
1.haul ass
2.weight transfer
3.ebrake
4.drift
5.go home and masterbate to asian porn

bringing back the thread with a few more stuff

i finally learned how to turn away from the turn, and then flick the wheel hard and get the ass end out without understeering, so i dont have to turn smooth anymore to avoid understeer, and then clutch kick and hope the ass end comes out

but i still want to try the ebrake for mid drift and initiation

i saw a video of a supercharged rhd s13 sliding, and i saw him use the ebrake for an extension, and thats when it hit me, how it worked

my question though, would you have to push in the clutch before you used the ebrake? id be afraid to yank the e brake and make the back wheels stop if that means my car might stall out or i might mess somthing up if i dont know what im doing

and truth is, i dont really know what im doing yet

Yes, you need to push in the clutch. Think about it... your motor is trying to spin the rear wheels. If you pull the ebrake, you're fighting against the motor. Pushing in the clutch disengages the motor so the rear wheels can lock a lot easier.

By fix your ebrake, I meant replace the cable, pads, and adjust, just like I said. Not because your's was broken, but to tune it up.

Most of these cars get driven by morons that think to set the ebrake you have to yank it all the way up so the lever is vertical, thus stretching the cables out. By replacing the main cable (runs from the handle to the splitter) you can take out a TON of action from the handle, making it more effective, and quicker to use. That combined with new rear pads (or ebrake pads if your z32/r33) and an adjustment will make a huge difference.

At the beginning I didnt use the ebrake Ive started with feint and cluchkick straight away cus the lex i had at the time where far to aggressive on the e brake, but later on Ive finaly realised what a gift from god it is, and that its a shame I didnt start to learn using it earlier. Im not that big fan of initiating a drift with it except for longslides i think.

As u say replacing pads etc, that is by far something really good to do inorder to keep the e brake in fresh condition, and the safety of you and your car, just immagine goin down the straight into an corner and u realise that your beloved e brake is dead. OMFG TIERWALL! BOOOM!

^^Yea, don't forget the asian porn. All that jacking off helps your hand to ebrake properly.
hahaha WORD!

if you dont know how to use your ebrake mid-slide, learn. ITS VERY IMPORTANT WHEN FOLLOWING A SLOWER CAR IN TANDEM. if your catching him you need to maintain the slide w/o speeding up, so you throttle, clutch/ebrake, pop clutch with throttle still on, clutch/ebrake, pop clutch with throttle on.....and back and forth like that as much as you need to maintain distance(this is usually for tighter courses)

My e-brake barely works on my rx7, but I don't like the idea of clutch kicking a rotary so I yank it and hold it to get a tiny bit of oversteer from it cause I have 225 all-season fronts with 275 race-radials rears an it likes to push. On a real course though I never use ebrake ever, I love weight transfer and brake initiations.

hey i know this is an old post but im looking at trying to get a second generation or 3rd gen rx7 and i was just wondering if u get a stage 1 or 2 clutch is it still bad to clutch kick with a rotary? Sry for asking so late im new to the website.

It isn't "bad" to clutch kick. Its a good way for you to learn to initiate. Its harmful on the tranny regardless of what clutch you have.

ya because it puts pressure and wear on the clutch but am i right when i say its supposed to be made to take more of that than a stock clutch?

Yes but by clutch kicking your disengaging the clutch, letting it rev and then forcing the clutch back into the tranny to grab(correct me if I'm wrong) so it harmful with either and aftermarket clutch or a OEM clutch.

my head hurts tryin to put this all in order...i need a ride along with someone at the next countyline
