Did you push it in some turns? I really don't like the way those cars feel in the rear end, but I know it can be tuned out with the right alignment and coilovers....

I drove my friends M54 M coupe on some twisties that I know in my sleep and I honestly scared myself, the owner loved every second though.... lol

yeah I got it a bit sideways and pushed it it was fun.

yeah semi trailing arm cars do feel weird but im used to semi trailing rear suspension

yea uh i dont think a nissan 240sx could be compaired against a bmw m coupe... now im not taking side here but these are two different cars in a sperate class. the nissan in 96 for a top of the line se cost $22,000. now the bmw 328 at that time cost $32,000 for the base model.

one has a inline 6 and the other has a inline 4. one is a lurury sports car, will the other as at the boarder line of being called a sports car. so by putting these 2 car let alone car manufactures in the same class and try to pick out which one is better is just silly.

and in the end of all this hoopla, it all depends on the driver's skill (which in the video neither of them had any).

^ I dont know cause they are not JDM tyte?

Domestic cars have won 3 of the 4 years Formula D has been a series. Facetious answers aside, if BMW's are so great, in a series where its fair to compare apples to oranges, why aren't they making more a presence? I mean, its been argued here by the zealots that they're just as cheap, far superior in every way, and basically bullet proof. Hmmm, something doesn't add up.

You BMW guys are acting like cocky intellectual whores about this argument. Nobody gives a shit that BMW has won xyz races. Why? Because it doesn't matter. You don't drive a race car, neither do I, and we're not world class race car drivers.

Let me say it again for the small pp folk who live in fantasy land:
Our cars are not race cars. We are not world class race car drivers.

Yes, BMW puts forth a huge racing effort. There have been a boat load of BMW factory backed race cars. It is quit impressive. Congratulations. Seriously, hats off. Does that change anything? No. Nissan also has an enormous racing history and still competes in everything from JGTC to baja rallies. :boring:

+1, besides drifting is kinda like a counter culture to motor sports because its judges on style thats why ae86s are still in the game.

I think there arnt BMW's in the series because BMW won't sponser anyone for "drifting" Lets see here.. Rhys Millen won (sponsered by pontiac) Samuel won (sponsered by dodge).. In all seriousness, I doubt BMW takes drifting serious at all, and probably never will. Same reason you don't see any other big names like Ferrari, Mercedes and so on which are FAR superior to a Nissan 240sx...

Tanner foust didn't have a factory backed 350z.

So it takes a factory backing for BMW's to be competitive?

We can just look at formula d wins in general. Has a BMW ever even made top 16?

BTW - in case nobody noticed, i didn't say one car was superior to the other. Personally I don't see the point in arguing about platforms - especially when 99% of us are (or are planning on) modifying our cars to holy hell leaving little left of factory parts. I just fail to see the purpose behind using race statistics to formulate an argument.

Reason noone has a BMW on there is because back when drifting started, noone was taking expensive BMW's out and smacking walls with them etc. Why would they? It's fricken Japan. Why spend money on a expensive car from a far away country that will smack a wall eventually when these 240's are cheap to fix. If this whole drifting thing started in Germany I can guarentee there would be way more BMW's in the game along with other german cars. I really havent seen people start using BMW's until recently in USA. Go to Europe though, BMW's galore and they are competing and winning in drifting competitions. So no it doesnt take factory backing, just in USA people don't seem to go for different cars they just go for what's already proven to work. They see Orido or Kazama or whoever and they say "Damn what car is that!?! A 240sx?? Those are everywhere I want!" And that's why noone really starts off saying, hmm, well let's pick a car that is already proven to be a winner in other racing categorys and make it perform in drifting and it should be competitive. Why do that? That takes time, research, R&D, etc. Why do that when you can get a 240, go on the internet and find out to have a near perfect setup in one day and be out sliding the next weekend.

So because Americans are stupid and obsessive over Japanese drifters, BMW's are not regularly used? So what's to be said of the current and longstanding BMW drifters in the US? They suck? Not buying it.

In D1GB, an s14 won in 2006. Go figure.

Check out the top 3 cars in the EDC (European drift championship) for 2007 too. No BMW.

Oh and keeping things consistent, I can dredge up an old thread where SFLD's BMW ring leader says BMW's - E36's specifically - are just as cheap as s-chassis. So cost should not factor into this argument.

I didn't say anyones dumb or smart or anything. But yea, Americans are very obsessive over Japanese drifters and cars.

LOL. i dont even know who won last years d1...LOL.... this thread cracks me up, lets compare a $57k CAR to an $8k car...LOL.. and people call me stupid..

E36's and E30's ARE cheap and when did I use that as a factor in the argument? I'm not a BMW worshiper nor do I only go for one car. I could give two shits about a BMW engine (obviously) and I just went for a car that I thought would perform best for my budget. But to me, it makes sense to pick a car that is proven to perform in racing and the E36 is. My whole argument was started just because one guy said the entire BMW lineup sucked compared to nissan because his Maxima, he felt, handled better to him than his 325. That makes no sense at all and that was my argument.
