To Anyone that owns or drives a bike

There was one picture there of a guy with a fence post thru him that was worse then some of the guys that were in pieces. I don't ride a motorcycle nor do I ever plan on, but I have 2 very close friends that have come so very close to death that they both no longer ride. They both have body parts that are being connected by metal rods and screws. 2 very different accidents and 2 very different times but one thing in common was they were both hit by unconcerned drivers of a car. Both were watching the road neither drunk or high and both were struck from behind and from the side by a medium sized car (sedan). The citizens of South Florida are mainly made up of immigrants that come from country's that DO NOT have cars for ordinary citizens and have very little or no experience at driving a motor vehicle. It is EVERY BODIES responsibilities to be as careful on the roads as possible. But when you have a astronomical number of unlicensed drivers there is obviously more chance for that person to be involved in a accident whether it be with another car or motorcycle. Make your own decisions, thats what I say. Good Ol' saying - gotta pay to play!

Motorcyclists often slow by downshifting or merely rolling off the throttle, thus not activating the brake light

this is the only thing i have seen tons of bikers (sportbikes) do that is plain stupid..
you always gotta tap the brake lights even if you dont use it.. also.. some dumb asses ride in the middle of the road while cars are doing 70mph+

I ride every day rain or shine.... WITHOUT A HELMET... and im still alive after 5 years of daily riddin. so the stadistics might be right.. but they dont count the stupidity of some riders

I knew another kid that rode for a few years no helmet no pads and never had a issue. Some would say luck.

the thing is that if you are gonna ride.. you gotta keep your eyes open and take 30 times more precaution than with a car.. and use the mirrors every single time.... most of the motorcycle accidents happen from behind because cars dont see you or are doing some other things... in that case you need to be checking the mirrors all day long.. also i seen many riders take the mirrors of the bike coz it looks cooler... is a costly mistake.

Also as you said many people never drove a car before .. and decides to buy one and use the cellphone while eating and driving at 50mph+

or precaution.. i ride in shorts , shirts and helmetless. mostly 40 miles per day or a little less sometimes. i do encounter everyday some ALMOST accident, is true.. but the problem begans when you belive you are a good rider and relax a little... that is when it bites you in the ass :p at least your friends are still alive which is good, :D!

Seems like most people are afraid to admit it for some reason, but a lot of people on bikes drive like shit. I feel safe saying the majority of motorcyclists I encounter on the road fall into the category of driving like shit. In my experience, they tend to either drive waaay too fast or they drive like they own the road (speeding up/slowing down at will, cock blocking traffic, treating the road like a playground while IN traffic). Don't get mad if you ride a bike and you don't fall into that category - I'm glad you're not a fool. But I'm skeptical of most "innocent bike rider" accidents b/c of what i see every day. I'd be more afraid of old people than anything else around here though...I am in my car, that's for sure.

yeah i know... i have met people that doing 20 miles fell off and ended up with a scar huge on their heads. i guess luck portrays part of it too.

This is good advice for everyone. I had to take driving lessons when I was a kid and the instructor would hit the brakes if I didn't check my mirror ever 10 seconds on regular roads and every 5 seconds on the highway. It has saved me from accidents at least 2 notable times - once w/ a bike!

you are right! i stop ridding in groups because speeds can reach 190mph while in traffic. An exactly like you said I have seen a growing trend on sportbike riders of blocking traffic, i even had one downshift to like second gear on the turnpike while everyone was doing 60+ so he could answer his cellphone.. I just wanted to smack him on the head.. because of him I get cops harrasing my ass every day i ride the sportbike.. but when i ride the harley I NEVER ! EVER GET PULLED OVER

exactly there is a rule in motorcycling the 10 second rule.. check your mirrors every 10 seconds just with a quick look and it will save your life.. exactly as you said!!

dude if you ask any of my old ridin buddies they would tell you i was one of the safest riders...and i got ran over lol...so it doesnt matter how safe you are anything can and will happen!

i love riding but i forced myself to sell my bike because i couldnt ride responsibly. All i wanted to do was wheelie, endo, split traffic, get it sideways and just speed in general. After almost going to jail for riding a 3 mile wheelie i decided to sell it. Now i drift instead alittle more boring but safer.

dam as a noob rider that shit sucks. i always wear a helmet and gloves dough, and i try to drive safe at all times. specially in miami.
