Seems like you never tried drifting a stock AE86 around some super tight turns, or u turns. Even the almighty clutch kick can do much if it's second gear. If anyone wants to try getting technical here, here I go. I am not a good drifter as of now. But from experiences, drifting in a Corolla (especially stock) requires lots of clutch kicking, and high revving. Tight turns on most other higher powered cars (especially SR20 or KA-T) don't have much of a problem with spinning the tires in second gear. The Corolla does. The ground under the tires is not moving fast enough for the little power of the car to spin them in second gear. Larger, bigger radius turns are no problem with clutch kicking and initiation with power means you need to throw the car into the turn pretty damn hard. Remember my car is stock, and this is coming from my experiences (which is not much). Also I have seen many D1 AE86 drivers using 1st gear for tight turns, like the hairpins in Ebisu, and some parts of Sugo Sports land. So please, if you don't first gear drifts drifting, then you are close minded.
