New Sponsor + TV show

Well back in November I called BrightHouse and suggested they do a piece for their 'manly' onDemand show called "Big Boy Toys" with host Rachel Erikson. They agreed and we finally got a date set, we just filmed on Friday for it and it was pretty fun relaxed day. They should have a short segment talking about the drift scene in Florida/where it takes place.

*Originally my idea was to have them attend a OSW Practice and just do a 'general show' but they declined that idea saying they like small numbers and freedom to do lots of angles and poses. So they made it single car. I talked them into 2 cars for tandem but OSW would not let us have 2 cars on track at same time (me and Jeremy Lowe) even with cages and shit, oh well.

You will notice a new sponsor on the car, and yes, I liked driving on them! More grip, great smoke, lasted a while, even wear, great tires!

Here is some snaps from Mars, and a link to gallery.

" I'm jeremy lowe, and I drift sometimes."
"I'm jeremy lowe, and I burnout around corners."

Hahahahahahaha.
That shit was so funny. There will never be tandem at osw again. They just make up stupid rules and the only tandem I've seen there is dan and jlowe. Scott and I get what they say we need, then they tell us we need fire suppression and fuel cells and all this retarded stuff.

Anyways...... Friday was neat. You and jlowe drove good like always.

Jason!! Congrats man!! That's really awsome!

Please make sure to share with us the show when it gets aired.

will be sure to share it when its up^^

Bill: I first talked to nexEn over a year ago and kept following up with them. This was a trial run for both sides and we will see how they like it, seemed happy so far though ^^

It is VERY hard to get a tire sponsor. You can probably find one to buy pallets at cost or wholesale easily enough but none of us have money i know. Even with my background and history and everything else, its still near impossible. I mean shit, Rhys lost his tire backing too and he is WAY above me in skill/exposure/fame. So focus on finding any source of tires.

If you try to go with a full sponsor you need to first get on the phone and find out who or where to even start talking to. Then you need to have a proposal, car, and personality to back it up. Its very hard to keep trying after everyone tells you NO but you have to try.

Stone cold truth. I know... it took me two years of contacting and follow ups.

jerm is a goofball haha, and yea i dunno what is up with OSW and tandem.

j-lo drove well and did some sweet links, I had some issues with the new tires higher grip and the gravel in the infield but all in all, the wall scrape for tv was the shit (see left corner for paint sanding wall action.)

That realy sucks i didnt realize that it was that dificult to get a real mainsteam tire company to sponsor drivers. Especially good drivers like yourself, and others. I thought it would be much easier than that i imagined that their cost would be very low per tire and full tire sponsor would include what 6 tires per event so 6 events and total of 36 tires per season.

well you haven't thought your plan all the way through.
6 rear tires per event? what about fronts? atleast 2 sets for the season, but should have a spare set (cheaper to ship in bulk than having to send you 2 more later) so now about 42 tires.

PRACTICE how you COMPETE. if you want to be consistent and able to improve you need to KNOW your tires. Driving different styles/sizes/randomness at practice is almost useless if your trying to maximize your driving confidence.

So now figure another 6-8 practice events all year, same numbers (6 events = 42 tires or 8 events = 54 more) means your 'season' is now around 90 tires.

This is a 'cushion' of about 20-30 tires realistically, I don't think you need more than 60 for the year. That number makes it not terrible, but still double what your estimate was in the beginning.

You can go pitch a 30 tire deal for the 'competition' only events, but good luck going from used pos to grip tires and being on top of your game. Seems easier to get just that you'd think right? Well sponsors would probably rather have a 60 tire budget with someone who will place well, than 30 for someone that probably won't (nothing attacking you of course, just 'in general theory')

Sponsors are more willing to open up to 'unique' or extra events you are into. Last year I got tires from Cooper for the IRL Demo, then again for the Stunt Wars demo. That was it, I pitched them the single event and sold them on that idea. Same with Nexen, I asked for tires for the TV shoot and the Stunt Wars demo; obviously I got them. I really like the Nexens, I just need to adjust my driving style a little for the higher grip they offer.

Another thing you have to realize is there are 500+ 'drifters' in America, what makes YOU deserve anything more than the other 499+. Make your case, show them why. If you don't get it its because A) You don't have anything to offer besides "I drift" or B) You didnt write it well/try hard enough.

I got a local used tire store to agree to sponsoring me. I haven't written up a formal proposal but I was thinking something like I could hand pick the used tires for practice and have then get me new sets for each competition or demo I do. They just want to see a nice car first and I told them at the time I was building a ls1 car, but hopefully they will be happy enough with a built KA-T.
