Mod overtime or Buy Modded?

in my opinion you should buy a bone stcok one and buolt it yourself. just for the only reason that you dont know what the previous owner has done to it. and then get a big sticker and put it on your car that says Built not Bought. lol. thats just my 2 cents. lol. good luck though

i have a ka and i rock out with my cock out, buy a stock and build it your own way.... you will feel proud of your acomplishment, and you will love your car even more...

Been doing a bit research on the gas mileage for both ka and sr20 engines but have not found any standard numbers. Whats the average mileage for a ka?

I know the sr20det will suck lots of gas when stepping on it since its a turbo, but what about normal driving?

A stock sr wont be that bad but if you upgrade the fuel system you will pay for it at the pump. Either was its gotta be better then my supra. lol 12 mpg suxs ass lol A Ka isn't bad for a daily on gas 22 city 28 hw according to epa.

Sr's get better gas mileage. At least I did. Maybe b/c i was flooring it in the KA all the time. I would get around 25~28mpg on my stock t25 setup.

i never drove a stock sr but my sr with upgraded fuel pump and injectors got around 17 -20. But i drove it very conservativly. Hard on the throttle on 95 i could watch the needle drop lol.

You did not have a good tune then! I always had a walbro and when I went 740's w/ an enthalpy tune i still got over 20mpg...unless I drove hard in which case I never cared to measure. My current SR (s15 sr) has a crappy tune and 550s and sucks up mad gas. Tuning is key.

lol I never tuned my car properly i was running a walbro and 550s. I know i was running rich but i didn't want to keep the car so i never botherd to tune it. The car is still down in miami somewhere i think the kid got it retuned the last i talked to him. When i got on the throttle on 95 and stayed on it i could watch my gas drain away lol.

To my understanding the KA24DE demands premium fuel. I just did some research with google and found the compression ratio is 9.8:1, 9.5:1, 9.3:1. Given your experience with this engine, can one use 87 octane fuel on it? Does it have an anti-knocking sensor? Like I stated before I plan on using the chuki as a DD so I definitely need it to work with cat piss :)

And since I started inquiring about this, what about the sr20det?

Whoa, researching on this subject opened up a lot more questions.. "Electronic Fuel Injection" ... cool..

Please pardon my current state of ignorance in these matters.. still a n00b  but I'll get there. I have google, wikipedia and howstuffworks as my buddies!

** What speed should I drive to get maximum fuel efficiency? <<-- this is a link to the (partial) answer.

* *The 240sx has a 5.88 drag coefficient (Better than a Lamborgini!) <<-- Table of cars measured by Car & Driver mag.

** Do the Cat. Converter substantially block the flow of the exhaust, and it so, how much? Trying to find a reputable answer only yielded me this article which seems like bs to me - they didnt mention anything about remapping the ECU / mingling with the exhaust sensor, which if not done / kept stock might even reduce performance (Read that in yet another article) or f**k up the engine. <<-- any comments on this?

I guess the question would be: do you use your drifter as a DD and if so what setup/system/technique-w/e u want to call it - do u have/use (whatever engine) to valance out economy while commuting and performance while drifting/racing?

removeing the cat and running a test pipe requires a mil eliminator to the best of my knowledge. This is on most car but don't know about a KA. You can run shit gas in a KA but it will run better on 93 octane. if you couldn't most people wouldn't drive them right now. Best gas milage on the highway would be 65 windows up ac off. As for driving different between daily to drift i baby the hell out of my car when im not drifting. I also have 11 points on my lisance so speeding is stupid in my case. For daily i run 89-91 octance then while drifting i run 93 with a gallon of 107. Keep in mind this is with a supra not a 240. My car can't run on 87 octane gas it runs like shit then floods the motor. As long as you keep your stock fuel system you should be alright.

I love you. You are the coolest, most not retarded noob ever. I'm being serious. This is the first time Ive seen people ask questions normally without thinking they know everything. :bigthumbu

To sort-of answer your general question, the KA, SR, and RB(20 anyway, don't have experience with 25 an 26) all get pretty economical gas mileage if driven normally. Ive Daily driven my drift cars years, you really wont have a problem if you maintain your car well, preventive maintenance is key. Get your car running 100% before you even think about modding it.

Check all coolant hoses for wear and tear(this can lead to some serious problems as I recently learned), spark plugs, wires, bushings, things of that nature. If you stay on top of that, you should be able to maintain reliably and performance.

Gutting or removing your cat will be slightly beneficial to gas millage and performance, On most OBD1 Cars (94 and below), doing this will not throw any codes or anything, so you will be fine.

Thanks Igor, appreciate your answer. One less thing (the most important I would say) out of the way and solidifying the choice of a 240sx over other cars.

So can one remove the cat of the s13 and have no adverse consequences?

Uhmm... I thought koukis were very expensive, but for what I've read here in the forums u can get one for less than 4k in VERY good shape. Is that so? and if so, is it more advisable to buy a kouki than a chuki (In regards of reliability, ease of modding, price and availability of parts. etc)?

Of all the 240sx models the ones I personally like the most (aesthetically) are the kouki with those bad a$$ head lights that look like the car is frowning and ready to take out every car in his way (like in Burnout games lol), or the chuki - err.. dont exacly know why but me likes.

EDIT: By the way, ur car looks sik. how much $$ have u spent in it so far (roughly). How long have u had it?

koukis are generaly between 4k-7k. It would probobly be more reliable then a chuki as its newer. The only down side to a kouki is that its heavier. I would recomend a zenki you can get one for 2k-4k in great condition can convert it to a kouki front end. As for finding parts the 240sx you can find just about anything parts wise pretty damn cheap compared to other chassis.

Splitting hairs would be an understatement in this case. Its misleading to just tell someone to get one model over the other b/c of weight when the amount in question is 9 fucking lbs. They're the same car and they weigh the same for all intents and purposes.
