    i need some opinions please.

Bulkhead? You mean the core support? Sounds like you want the car back more than anything, now that I hear more it sounds like a damaged/bondo'd rust bucket. I voted for the coupe but I retract that now. Keep the civic for the time being.

    i need some opinions please.

Would the 240 strictly be a daily or would you slide it as well? If you plan on sliding I say trade back, you can only have so much fun(read: not any) in a SOHC 4dr civic. Wierd noise

Yea that still makes me think lifters. Example: Startup chain noise lasts typically 2-3 seconds, starting the car up alone makes the noise and then it just goes away suddenly. Wierd noise

usually timing chain noise goes away in the first couple seconds of startup. I would tink more along the lines of your lifters. When sliding mine used to get starved of oil, after a run they'd be ticking like hell for a couple minutes then it would slowly go away.

My wife wants to rattle can paint her car

Cost me $40. The only hard parts as you can see in the pic are the hood/roof(big area), the rest of the car came out very even with no splotchiness/striping. Biggest mistake people make is buying the cheap paint, like $2 can stuff. No matter what kind you get make sure it has the "fan" spray...

    ae86 or s13

Have you ever driven/slid one? Try it out if not, that might make or break it for ya. I've always been a big S13 guy and test drove a corolla once as I thought a change might be nice. The lack of power was drastic and it handled completely different, ive never considered them again.
