We have a confirmation that Chelsea DeNofa has been testing the Nitto Tire Mazda Rx-8 run by the Bergenholtz Racing team and we hear they had a great test program together. Rumor has it maybe that Chelsea DeNofa is set up to be the replacement driver for Joon Maeng at some point sooner than later? It seems awful convenient that Chelsea DeNofa has a totaled BMW sitting in his shop and he is testing with another program. More details as they happen!

My BMW is being built at the shop and is scheduled to be ready for testing the weekend before Seattle. I was in Houston over the weekend picking up a miata with my x5. Still driving home as I post this. - Chelsea Denofa

I knew someone would pick Chelsea up.... I told Chris at PBIR after seeing him in the first 3 rounds that someone would after this season. His popularity has sky rocketed and he has the skills to back it up. Congrats to him!

On the other side, anyone who has met Joon knows that he was a truly amazing person to talk to in the paddock. One of the nicest and approachable guys out there. I wish him luck.

i really hope he doesnt drive anything other than the bmw. especially since he has so much seat time with it and plenty of sponsors behind it.

I have faith in his hands and feet. I have a feeling if he sits in the Rex, awesomesauce will happen regardless.

For some time he had a RX-7 long ago, so I'm sure a rotary engine is not completely foreign to him. I would be surprised if he decides to jump into the RX-8 considering how well he's been doing with his BMW but if the Mazda performs better then he should go for it.

From all the comments, Joon has had a lot of problems with that car, how do you think Chelsea will do considering his style is balls to the wall?

Well if Chelsea did in fact do a test run with Bergenholtz (I've yet to see a confirmation from him) then I'm sure he's taking that into consideration. The setup that he's had on his BMW has been reliable which has given him the opportunity to focus on his driving. If the RX-8 is problematic as people are making it out to be then I don't think he'll want to be a part of it. There's also the matter of how much flexibility he will have if he drives for their team.

Either way Chelsea should be able to make it to the next event, whether if it's in a BMW or a Mazda.

It isn't just about that, he has an opportunity to jump into a ride that is funded for the season (and probably some of next season). Like someone said in another thread, right now he is living event to event and that is really tough! There are so many more factors to it than how comfortable he feels in his BMW. And if the test session was a big of a success as it seems, I'm sure he is fine.

I can't imagine them letting Joon go without locking in Chelsea (or another driver) first.

Yea that's definitely something i'm wondering too. Didn't they blow an engine a couple of events ago?
