so i found a j30 vlsd at the yard, but im 5050 itll perform as well as i expect it to..

there is the option to just buy a lsd but thats cash i dont have at the moment and to upkeep

i want some insight on welded rears. who has them and who dailys:p

It doesn't bother me much daily, you learn to drive it normally. Yeah it skips in parking lots and blah blah blah but whatever. Just don't drive like an idiot and you'll be good.

the skipping tire never bothers me but i have spun like three times just driving in the rain straight not accelerating or anything

Then you are a terrible driver. I never once had any issues like that when I street drove my cars with welded diffs.

lmao im avoiding paying... iv spent enough trust me lol , thoo today i found a j30 with 5 bolt axles, will those work?

My girlfriend daily drove my sr car with a welded, both in the rain and not when her mazda broke down. And she had no complaints...

If you're able to slide and hold the car sideways no problem with an open, a j30 will be fine for you. It will drive a lot smoother in turns and nicer for a daily. It will lock up and do its job, but obviously not as aggressive as a real LSD. And obviously not as predictable as a welded.

If you're the type of driver who finds it impossible to drift with an open, then just get a welded since the car will basically drift itself. With a j30 its not going to kick out instantly no matter what like a welded will. You have to do it a certain way, but if you know how, it will be fine

If you want your rear end to lock up but still keep it a nice daily then go with a j30. If you want something super predictable and easy as hell to slide and dont care about the down side then go with the welded.

For a j30, try not to buy one off someone's 240sx cause it will probably be toast. Try to get one straight from a j30 with low ish miles. Try to find one 6 bolt (95-97 i think), so you dont have to swap the axles, and if you decide you'd rather have a welded, all you have to do is swap the diff again

hope that helped

i was considering the same decision here, j30 or welded and i think im gonna buy a used open diff and weld it and keep my current open diff as a spare. but a friend told me that welded puts a toll on things like half shafts and other drivetrain components after some number of thousand miles...anyone have a point on that?
