power steering... whats that?

finally got everything i need for my power steering to be hooked up all nice and proper... only to have it not work. there's no leaks from what i can tell and no noise coming from it either. the only thing i can think of is the pump being bad... how would one go about testing that?

Pump spinning? Added enough fluid? If system was dry (running a P/S rack w/ no fluid) ur gonna haveta bleed the system by adding fluid, turning side to side to completely fill the rack before you will have anything in the reservoir.

1: make sure pump turns both ways, not locked in either direction
2: make sure belt has proper tension (or is there at all, just making sure)
3: add fluid, turn wheel with car running and see if your reservoir fills
4: double, triple, and 1234567890x's check and make sure its not leaking externally
5: no leaks?

Try that out and see what's up.

its an sr.
the belts got tension, it holds fluid. when i added it i'd turn the wheel back and forth to make sure it was getting lubed up and all. should i drain it and keep doing that method? it was running dry but there was no belt on it so it wasnt spinning or anything. i just recently got the reservoir and hoses hooked up right. now i did put a piece from a ka power steering pump on it where the hose actually screws into it via a banjo bolt. could that be the problem since its an sr pump?

and should i be adding fluid to the reservoir or somewhere else?

as long as the pulley is spinning, the system should be pressurized/making steering easier. if you're sure it's full on fluid(after bleeding), the pulley is rotating with engine and not slipping.. you MAY have gotten a bad pump.

well its the one that came on the motor... actually bought the car off of here too. it looks like its spinning with the motor and not slipping. ill check and see if it spins freely both ways today. what do you mean when you say "bleed the system"? just like add in fluid to the reservoir?

check your banjo bolt n make sure u have both washers on it cause if not the whole on the banjo bolt doesnt line up with the line n cause ps not to work, if that doesnt work ps rack/pump could be bad. Also check if you hooked u the new lines correctly on the ps rack.

both washers are on. it may be since its like a ka banjo bolt that it doesnt line up. ill check and see if the lines are backwards too. hopefully the rack isnt bad =/

if all else fails your rack could be clogged.

Use that ^ get a turkey baster and get the pwr steering fluid out from your reservoir, dump half the trans tune bottle in there and work the steering wheel back and forth, let the car idle for 20 mins, get the trans tune out of your reservoir and put pwr steering fluid back in it and repeat (minus the 20 min idle)
