Questions about future suspension setup

Okay, but I do need to replace my shocks and struts still, kyb is fine for that right? And I'm starting to do research on coils so if you have any suggestions on good coils I'd appreciate it.

oh, and also could anyone recommend a suspension setup other than coilovers?

im just curious.

why do you keep asking? your kouki isnt a honda. do it right or dont do it all PERIOD.

If your looking for budget coils Try ISIS or Megan racing just came out with a budget coilover also. But personally i would save and go stance or PBM

I understand, I'm not trying to do anything the wrong way, my mistake, coils it is.

You made no mistake however you are in the presence of sheep.

There's nothing wrong with running aftermarket springs and kyb dampers. As a matter of fact, depending on your goals it may be the best solution. Since you're on a drift forum though, I'm going to assume that you will eventually want to drift, in which case a more aggressive, fully adjustable setup like coilovers would be your best bet.

You were asking about replacing your dampers b/c you needed to. If this is true, KYB's are fine. If you're saving up for coilovers, don't spend the extra money on AGX's and just get GR2's - you can get an entire set for under $200. If you daily your car long distances, this is an especially good idea since it will keep your tires in check and give you a smoother, quieter ride.

Lol what coils do you have?

Anyways to address your question like Tony Mac said there are times where a aftermarket shock and spring combo is good. But if you want to slide your car get some coilovers. I have pbm and love them. And I'd suggest you just save and do it right the first time. Like miamigetlow told you stance are also good coilovers. Compared goblets say Megans they are about 800 dollars? If your going to spend that much might as well save a little more and get pbm stance bc etx

why cant people answer like tony... not everyone cares for dishing 700 bucks for a pair of coilovers.. my car slides fine in springs and kyb gr2... it just needs a better driver lol.. you should focus on a diff (welded if you are in a budget)

well what is your final goal with this "240"? that is the question that you can only answer... if you are trying to have a nice daily that looks hawt and rides nice, then just get some nice lowering springs and struts... if you want to have a sweet drift car i would definitely save up and get a nice set of coilovers (STANCE ALL DAY) so just keep in mind your final goal as you buy things for the car so that you dont have to buy something twice!

had ksports on my old s13 hatch. eibach springs and tokico blues that came on car when i bought it now. coilovers open your world to a variety of options on and off the track.

i dont want to smack a curb or worse and then have no car till its fixed, so i guess for now im trying to get a nice daily driver with pretty decent power, and obviously has to look clean as hell :)

Wrong hobby then lol.

Because lets say even if all you do is slide at a great big parking lot with nothing to run into (in never ever land), you are still placing greater stress on the car, which keep in mind, is an old ass car. So you might not run into anything and, lets say, bend a control arm or snap a tension rod. But you'd still be looking at replacing tie rods and other wear and tear items, as well as not so much wear and tear ones...heck the oem tension rods are so weak you might snap them just drifting without hitting anything

Bend a control arm or tension rod from not hitting anything?
Get real bro.

Hey everybody. They're coilOVER!! A coil is something that gives your car spark. Or something that is tightly wound.

Coilovers.

If you plan on drifting, just get some coilovers. I'm not saying springs and struts are bad, but things are gonna be easier on you with coilovers.
I run all Isis suspension parts on my race car. I LOVE them. The Isis/ enjuku racing supercharged ls1 s14 runs all Isis suspension parts. Bill sherman drives that car and he likes them a lot.
Let me know if you have any questions about the Isis stuff. I'd be happy to talk to you about them.

This.

I used to slide on kyb's and megan springs and always spun from body roll. got coils and no more body roll.
also coilovers have improved my driving

hey bearcat listen up!!! he would know! lol, anyway, to OP just get some nice "coils" lol, ( i know how much that pisses me off so im pissing bearcat off) lol, and drive your car... if you want something "HELLA" clean, then the lower the better i say lol, also if you do get into drifting then you have these magical things called coilovers and you will greatly improve with them... so just do et!

i want to start getting into drifting but in all honesty, its my only car and my daily driver, im 18 years old so i mean i dont have the bread to keep replacing things and such, and i guess you could say im nervous to start because i dont want to smack a curb or worse and then have no car till its fixed, so i guess for now im trying to get a nice daily driver with pretty decent power, and obviously has to look clean as hell :)

also buddy its just a 240.... so easy to replace... i wouldnt worry too much about stupid stuff... and if you keep it on the track you are less likely to hit something than on the street just saying... be smart about where you want to learn!

I never said control arm

tension rod? I dont see why not. Those things are toothpicks. I must have hit at least 4 curbs HARD in my previous car and never changed a damn thing, except a bent rim. First time I hit a curb in my 240 was at less than 10 mph (wasnt even drifting) and that shit snapped right off without even saying sorry lol

point of my story was to tell the guy that if he doesn't want to break anything, then drifting is the wrong hobby =)

lol... straight outa your mouth!!!!

edit* you hit a lot of curbs... lol

oh damn, your right. Total typo there. Im not dumb enough to think that lol. I can testify to the strength of control arms because I rode a chopped up one (literally, it was bent so I had to drill through it to get to a nut) for a while and drifted a bit on it before my retarted "fix" backfired and it fucked up completely lol

so yeah control arms are fine :D:chair:

so instead of removing the 3 bolts that hold it on, you just "DRILLED THROUGHT IT".... <<<<definition of lazy!

no im not that lazy lol.

It was bent because I hit a curb. I had to remove the tension rod (cause it snapped). But I didn't have the money to buy a new control arm AND a tension rod. So, I used a drill to make a gap in the control arm, to be able to unbolt the nut that holds the tension rod...and just drove with the arm the way it was

drove for like 2 months too... it all ended on a night of street drifting when I heard a loud "crack". Limped home and found that there was OBVIOUSLY a big pressure crack originating from the hole I drilled. retarded solution I know... but it got me around while I saved money to buy 2 new control arms lol
