RB25 issues..

We all know RB's encounter problems, so do all other swaps.
But the RB's are known for their plague on the oil pump issues, oil this, oil that..etc.
I know many of you on here have RB swaps, from 20's to 26's.
But for the 25, what would be the first thing to upgrade/change?
Pump in my mind would be first, But I also read you shouldnt. I read alot online, and the RB's drain alot while in high revs.
Oil leaks, Boost leaks, leaks in general, I wanna know how some of you fixed these so I would know ahead of time. And, have any of you just ran your RB turbo with just oil lines? I've seen people just cut off the water lines since the turbo is oil cooled.
Also, the RB idles rough, goes up and down. The compression is good, maf is good, new spark plugs.
Would adjusting the cam anglesensor or just getting a new one fix it?
I know a simple lined answer wouldnt fix any of these, but just good pointers would help.

If you would know anything about these things, hit me up..thanks.

"2jzgte single turbo >anything else!!"
sooooooo true.
My 1jz alone is good enough for me.
But if drifting/racing/abusing the engine alot is out of the picture, theres no need for upgraded turbo or internals to produce close to or around 400hp?
Obviously, I think replacing ALL the pumps, oil, water, fans, cooling system, all filters, anything that has to do with fuel, etc. would be a thing to do whether or not abusing the engine is in the picture because I would want it to last.
Even though tuning is necessary, im not that big on it now as I am with these little things.

^^x1!

but i didnt touch my oil pump or water pump yet, but u should change both if the seals arent good....

if they seal is good i would flush the motor water system and oil, see what comes out, water is free! and use fresh oil! lol

spark plugs r always a good thing! As for leaks my motor was beat on hard! before i got it, nd had been over heated plenty of times! sooo i checked the obvious, turbo manifold for cracks, any bolts missing off of turbo side(i had 3), check to see if u r missing bolts if u even have studs(i was missing 4) lol

next i would check the turbo, check shaft play obviously.....new fuel and oil filter r deffs!

ummmm, andd if ur having over heating problems then theres somthing wrong, yes rbs like to be hot, but thats really a rb20 thing cuz theydidnt come with oil coolers like the 25/6 so run good fans and rad with good ducting and ull be fine....

u might want to get a gasket kit and redo them, if u do crack open the valve covers, they should be pretty clean, my motor is from an 89 skyline or w.e yr the 20 came in and my intake and exhaust were clean enough to eat off of! thats what ur looking for!

ahhhh if u get there u can check the tq on the head bolts i believe they r, if there correct then i wouldnt worry about changing the head gasket yet....

thats what iv done, again im no expert GL
2j>RB>everything else! :bigthumbu

ohhh also u asked about the idle, well i had that shit for a good minute and tuning is the easiest band aid for it!
and as far as power goes, if i get dyno time ill have "due note" of the hp i make, but stock rb will make 300+ whp

ohh an one more, tuning is great! u get what u pay for so dnt be a jew, more money to them=less money from u in the end! Get someone to do it right! or.....

But isnt the water line to the turbo..pointless?
But SoD, when you said your motor was overheated plenty times (and you act like your cool with it! lol) did you have any cracks?
And yea, I came to think that if it would overheat, it would be just to upgrade the fans because 20's didnt come with coolers like 25's and 26's did like you said..so upgraded fans would be the thing to do.
But your RB20 stock will make 300+, I think any completly stock RB would easily make 300+ without tuning. But with tuning, making 400 or around 400whp I think would do the trick.

" JZ>RB>everything else! "

Words from JEZUZ. hahaha.

i love rb's and i only had a rb20 it ran good and about the idle my idle was hi but other then that it was bad ass ps. timming belt is a good thing to do

well yea, but u need some tuning! buttt thats on stock turbo, for rbs the stock turbo isnt really good after 12-14 16 is pushing it, butt thats not to say u cnt do it, the turbo wont last for ever.....

yea im running 16" mishi fans and rad and its pretty good, but i havent had a temp gauge will soon tho!

as for me being kool with it overheating it wasnt mine at that point, but im to worried, compression test was pretty and everything else is to, except the manifold shit but i dealt with that.....

400 hp is reachable on the rb25, 400 is pushing the reliable daily aspect of the 20 i believe but the 25 with tuning stock motor could make 400hp i dnt think easily but could do it....maybe a standalone and new turbo, or something of the sort....

when u think about it tho, the rb20 didnt make over 230 hp stock so 300+ is great lol

Just put it in, done. Deal with problems as they arise.

Or replace gaskets, oil pump etc if you WANT.

also you could run an oil cooler.. that always helps.. and as far as the rough idle, look for vacuum leaks..
and another thing
rb's love to run hot.. get a good radiator and good fans

ka es no gud....^^

there better for tq then a sr, but at 2 littlers RB FTW! if u get a 26 or a newer 25 over heating issued should be as much of a burden, because they addressed that issue as the yrs went on...

buttt CLUTCH FAN W/ SHROUD>EFANS

iv heard that clutch fan, tho adding more rotating mass, is better than efans....
and all the stuff stated before r all great ideas and tips!

ya i mean u dnt have to have OH problems, its fl it gets hot!!! u just need to have a good cooling system.

My RB never over heated dding it, but once it saw the track it would get hot(obviously) but it wont be that way once im done with it...
