Gas Tank Pressure

Every time i open my gas tank it releases alot of pressure from inside, now i know a little is normal but lately its been worrying me something might be wrong. is the tank supposed to release alot of pressure?

also i heard s14 tanks arent the best is this true?

s14 tanks are not pos, they are lightweight plastic and mounted right over the rear axle for better weight distribution. Your tank vent is not venting correctly, fix it now, because it WILL crack.

u know my car has been doing that lately too, i just didnt really pay much attention to it. ruh roh i guess im gonna have to check this. anyone know where that vent is on a hatch?

its a whole system, it vents from the top of the tank, into lines , to the front charcoal canister or rear one depending on the model. Download the service manual for your year and go through the system.

and in the case that the charcoal canister is deleted?

ive always had this issue with s13's

s13 have metal tanks so its not really an issue, the metal hard line that comes from the rear of the car needs to be left open so it will vent there.

Make sure u drill a 3/8th hole on the lower driverside of the tank, where the service manual states.

its normal for some built up pressure to vent, as long as its not excessive.


if you have it just vent to the atmosphere i'd be a bit concerned with how much gas you lose from it vaporising.
