my take on it...

i dont think its massive rear grip. its more the timing of the counter, how much angle his steering HAS, and how aggressively he is tossing it in. He also brakes in all of them i believe. he is basically throwing a 180 but throws it soft enough (while throwing it hard), with quick (early) countersteering. he catches it with the brake i think, and then dumps on the throttle. as the car stops its backward momentum while sliding to the side, it instantly starts going back forward and the car 'drives' out of the extreme angle.

think of being in your car, stopped, and turning wheel full over. now drop to clutch at like 4k and do a burnout. itll turn to the side. now instead of starting at a stop, you have to throw the car into a stop in the Y (forward/backward) momentum while keeping some X axis (sideways) momentum. The rest is all timing and throttle/steering to come out of it in the same direction or to transition.

its not impossible in theory but SHIT, its VERY insane to do.

seems like i might be pretty damn close! haha

your just using technical terms. ive never explained anything with drifting to anyone in the world, and used any of those terms to do it.

if I say that the amylase breaks down the glucose when I masticate various solids that are sources of nurishment.
I could also say that my spit helps me digest sugar in food.

i know your point but srsly.

I was mostly posting w/ regard to the 1st year engineer student trying to sound like he even has a clue. My point is that if anyone here knew what was up, they'd be entering like that too, and if you even want to try to get technical about the ins and outs, you should know your shit.

actually im second year about to go into 3rd of mechanical engineering at fau. if i already knew everything do you think i'd still be in school? there is a difference between knowing the theory of how its done and actually having the skill to be able to apply it. also i dont see what is wrong with anyone attempting to explain it? since when was it a crime for anyone to give their 2 cents? keep in mind i didnt profess my academics for the sake of showboating, pat was being an ass and basically claiming i knew nothing of what i spoke; it was the only way i could think of giving some credibility to my name. the fact that i manually typed in spectator for my title shows im am not one to enjoy thinking im better than others. so if you have a problem with me im sorry that cant be helped.

edit: i'd also like to add for this comment
"if you even want to try to get technical about the ins and outs, you should know your shit."
first of all with drifting being the youngest of the motorsport how are we supposed to get technical when the technical terms the apply specifically to drifting dont even fully exist yet?! if you think about it we are on our way to defining new technical terms by the pure act of discussing it by using layman's terms; for what is a word but a composite of its simpler forms?

Dude relax. I hope you go back and read your own posts in a year or after you do an event and build a car. Talking about drifting being a low grip sport (there is no back-pedaling out of that one) or referring to being at full lock before an apex as "ultimate drifting" or "awd drifting" shows you have confused ideas. And there is nothing new to the concepts going on here. Tire, asphalt, inertia, blah blah - its just a car on a road. And no i have no problem with you. Actually i think you're super.

damn straight i wont pedal out of saying its a low grip sport! i never willllllllllllllllll. think about it, you've got four tires, two of them ARE SLIPPING!. as it should have been taken: you build for high grip but lower grip is a consequence of SLIPPING TIRES AROUND A CORNER. i suggest if you want to prove me wrong find a Gmeter and put it in a car, drift then race you will see. i rest my case. ultimate/awd drifting are my jargon, even lacking as they are. oh yea did i mention, i have a drift car and its a miata thank you very much and i have been to an event. one measly event it may be but there will be more as time and money is in surplus. have a nice day.:p
