Wow, what an awesome weekend! Winner of the competition and points leader after R1 is Juha Rintanen in his black 532bhp JDM Racing S14. He will be holding on to the edge of the NOPI wild card with both hands at round 2 in two weeks.
Biggest surprises of the weekend were Petteri Törmänen in his first pro level competition, driving an unfamiliar BMW 328 with cut standard springs and de-tuned engine (compression lowered but not yet turbocharged). Petteri took 20 points for placing first in the qualifying. His route in the finals was stopped by Mikko Viitala in his supercharged BMW M5-powered Opel Kadett in the great 8. The judges even had to call a one more time between them.
Even bigger surprise was Harri Hokkanen in his plain black S14. Harri entered the amateur class as his first ever proper event in his life, rocked it like a pro from the first practice on, was given a wild card for the FPDA pro competition and placed fourth, only for having issues with his throttle cable in the semifinals! This guy has an innate gift for the sport, most visible in the tandem runs where he is able to pressure his opponent superbly. Great guy, great driver and certainly a contestant for the championship as well!
