white plug coming off of harness by ecu??

ok so i just finished a sr swap into my 89 hatch and i got it turned on and driving, but the temp gauge didnt work so i looked around and found that there was a white connector coming off the wiring harness right next to the ecu. i plugged it in and went to start my car and it didnt turn on??????? i unplgged it and it turned on fine?? wats going on here?!?!?!?
 
the extra white plug on your sr harness is for automatic sr's. Dont take my word for it I just read it somewhere in Nico. And the whole situation were ur temp sensor isint working, well, when you did the conversion on the sr harness make sure the black/blue wire is good. That sends signal to the cluster.
 
it sounds as if the dash plug is wired wrong sumhow thats why it starts without it pluged in
