I know it sucks to hear about where the country is heading.
Better to be planning out your motor swap or your next drift event
and not have to think about it all.
But for those of u that are married like me or living on your own
it might be a little more important or "scary" than those of u that r still at moms crib chillin... I sure as hell wish I was :(
I guesss its bc we have to pay rent or mortgage, credit cards and property taxes, etc.
But the reality is clear.... *BTW I hate watching the f**king news.... its sucks.
If u think that 2009 will be a better year than '08 then ur only fooling urself.
Wish it werent true though.
This affects everything bc maybe in the near future there wont
be drifting or an "import scene ".
Its already going down the toilet
compared to '98-'02....which was probably the years where the
Import Scene or w/e u wanna call it was at its peak.
Trust/GReddy went in the sack at least in Japan...Turbo Magazine was canceled...
Honda, Toyota pulled out of F1, Subaru, Mitsubishi and a few others out of
WRC and etc etc....and the fuel crisis.... shit.
I dont know what other companies, tuner shops and magazines have been affected honestly bc I havent researched yet.
I know my Super Street issues are half the amount of pages they were a year ago.

What do u guys think of the future of drifting, the import scene, and basically motorsports in general?

Let's try to be realistic here guys.
Pls share ur opinions.

Misery loves company.

There's no point in taking part of this thread. If you think '09 will be worse than '08 and we're still in February, then you lost already.

Yesterday, with car sales being there they are, my boy sold two cars at the dealership. The day before he had a ridiculous sale on another one. So where's the "recession"? There is some difficulty out there, no doubt. But people just seem to like to lay over and wait for death. Or so it seems.

Personally, drifting's fate has little to do with this recession.

.....i agree....

people feed off this shit i swear....

but for all the people with the whole "i live by myself and the world is going to explode", ..... maybe ....and obviously you didnt do good enough in life to amount to anything...and now theres no money for you..... well.... i guess all that hard work and struggle didnt pay off..... ..... no offense to anyone personally.... but i just hate the ranting about how hard life is ....

and go ahead and tell me how i dont know how it is.... :)

Just make the best of your life, and stop thinking that something outside of you is gonna control the outcome of your life. There are ways of making money, or preparing yourself to be financially secure. I'm going to school for computerized manufacturing (to become a CNC machinist), so that way I have a more secure life ahead.

As for drifting, sadly, it's just a fad. It will die out, just like the import scene is dying out. It's the true lovers of drifting that will keep it going.

Everything has an era, and they just keep coming back after awhile. Look at the muscle car era. 1964-1974. Before then, people were modifying their big displacement V8s to do crazy 1/4 mile times, and then Detroit started pumping out some serious cars straight from the factory. In the early 70's, a fuel crisis started slowing the whole muscle car movement until in '74 it just faded away, but the true hardcore muscle car lovers kept it alive. Very few cars between '74 and the mid '90s were even remotely exciting. Few exception like the Grand National and the 5.0 Mustang were around, but it was still nothing. Now Detroit is kicking out some serious cars again (despite their slumping successes). It's just a trend.

Same thing with drifting. It will go and come back. People will get bored of it, but the true diehard drifters will always be around, looking for ways to keep it alive. It's up to you, really. If you really love drifting, you wont care if it will keep it's popularity or not. You will do what you love because you love doing it.

i work construction(i build pools which is a luxury item) and been strugglin with that kinda work for bout 2 years. thats how long ago we felt this shift in the economy. but things seem to start gettin better like erick said as well. stop watching the news and feeding into there scare tacticts. they do this shit with everything. when the dow jones is down 5 points they act like the world is gonna end but dont say shit when its up 400 points.
