What kinda rubber do you use on your drift slut?

Kinda interested in what everyone is running up front for their cars and what they think of them.

Discuss!

225-5016 Futura GTX II... haven't had a chance to test the tires... some of you know my situation with the bhg and the compete upgrade of the car so yeah.. if anyones used these tires lmk whats up and as Dan said, what you think of em. thnx

I've used a lot of different front tires but on my current setup, using 235/40/17's, the only tire I've tried is a RT615. I got it for grip driving purposes but it worked well as a front drift tire (for obvious reasons). Really though, for drifting, front grip is overrated.

Front: Dunlop FM901
Rear: Hialeah used tires, specially hand-picked by my step-dad. :bigthumbu

+1 FM901's FTW
i bought a used set from rick and they r amaizing

Front - rt615 205/50/15 *they really need to hurry up with the 225 flavor*
Rear - anything I can find

RT615 in 195/60/14's were on the FC but i'm moving up to some 15's. i allready have one set of brand new 512's on SSR mesh for the back of Kwkouki's car.

Front grip is overrated?????????hahahahahahahahahahahahha thats a good one. The Rt615's arent just for grippiness but also for no sidewall flex.

RT615 215/40/17 something like that i dun know anymore...

plan on stepping it up to a rt615 235 sometime soon

i run a 225 45 17 rs-2 with a 245 40 17 cooper zeon 2sx on 9 and 10 wide.

I have to drive on the setup a little more, but if i were to move to a 235 40 i might want a 255 35 in the rear. But i dont have the power to be flexable with that setup right now.

For drifting, I'm serious. Obviously there has to be something decent but grip out back is where its at. Exotic fronts are a waste of time for drifting for most of us (me too). I don't drift exclusively though.

i have been running falken azenis since i got my first rt215 back when i got my car. i did it sort of as my frist modification (only had a little bit of money) and it made a world of a difference.i ran once a set of yokohama advan a048s that i have and they are too much lol but i am saving those for a track day. i tried running some falken Ziex's and some other (think it was Nankang) in the front with a decent traction rating and they licked nut sacks like never before... i think ill be sticking with the azenis for a while unt il i have time to tet out different tires...i really wanna give the rs2s a try and same for yokohama es100s

I think you should have said, "you should have enough front grip so while you are mid slide the car will still respond to your steering". It depends on the driver and car setup the amount of front grip someone wants to run. Remember when you had those 175 65's on your fc all around, no name passenger tires, but when i drove the car i was still able to keep it going and not straiten out middrift because the front wheels lost traction. At the time it had enough front grip for the car setup and the driver.

Im using bridgestone turanzas er30 i think they are w/e ones have 140 treadwear 205-45-16 and than hankook rs2 225-50-16 rear

Basically that's my point - you don't need much when your rears are spinning like crazy. A decent set of tires is plenty. Turn-in is the only time where front grip is even worth a shit and really its more of a redundancy thing than anything depending on your entry technique. Most people ebrake durning decel - you don't need much up front to guide the car when your ebrake is up. Anyway, the only front tires I ever had a problem with were ES100's. I couldn't feel them at all. My less grippy ST115's were better up front - I had faster and more confident clutch-kick turn-ins.

You run 17x9's up front right? 235/40 FTMFW. Feels so much better than a 215. You're going to love it.
