Exactly. They want to put on a show and thats it. They dont care that people are competing here trying to do something with their drifting career, they just want spectators to come and to come back again. Once people hear that at least one person totales a car at each nopi event the people will come. If nopi really wanted to, they could get foam for the walls. But why would they when they know that crashes will boost there spectator attendance. They are trying to make money, thats it, there not doing it for the sport.
 
All this politics bullshit goes unchecked because the people who can raise their voices don't. If the general consensus among all NOPI drivers is that the layouts are dangerous and that it sucks, sign your names and do something about it.

hahaha jerome... u no speaky until i speaky to you hahahahaha and eric has a point... all the NOPI drivers should do some type of petition or something....

I think most wont petition it because they are afraid something will happen to them. Just like dont make enemies with the judges.

As for the k-rails.... one thing that really sucked at the LA event is they were using the real highway style, 20ft k-rail pieces, 8,000lbs each, so they destroy cars instead of moving somewhat and absorbing inpact energy. In Miami they were using I think 8 or 10ft k-rail sections, and on top of that, they weren't even interlocked, in L.A. the 8,000lb k-rails were interlocked, so it was CRAZY hard to move them.

NOPI drift is a new series and it is just going through teething problems right now. I'm hoping to organize a drivers association to voice concerns over safety, both crowd and drivers. But remember, the crowd comes first, the guys in the cars are surrounded with cages and lots of safety equipment.

My only gripe from L.A. other than my crappy driving, was that the k-rail where I crashed was totally unecessary. It was not in a crowd area, and it was actually in an offlimits area that had a 20ft wide planter/median full of bushes. Had I made it 10ft further down the wall you can see where it changed into orange/white water barriers. Also for crowd safety the k-rails and water barriers need to not have the tapered bottom which tends to pick cars up and launch them, or at least guides them up the wall. Flat face barriers will avoid cars getting airborne.
 
That sucks sean. Looks like you didn't commit for one reason or another. I've seen you save yourself in more difficult scenarios so don't let it get you down.
 
Trust me I've spoken to MANY people regarding the events/layouts/problems... here is what ive been told:

The venues were secured before anyone that knows a hint of drifting was really involved. Hence, the judges are also displeased with the lots we are given and also have their hands tied as far as that goes. No one did recon on the lots this year so its kinda like, shitty. Next year I am sure some of the venues will change, arizona and st.louis were fine so far.

The k-rails are usually better than miami, that and LA were the only 'really' dangerous setups with narrow room. Denver had lots of crashes due to the dip/bumpy surface in the first and second turns.

I dont think the k-rail you hit was a un-needed one sean, the fact is, there was potiential for a heavy understeer at high speed at that spot, with a water barrier, the person could have EASILY cleared that planter. Either way, the course was dangerous.


AS FOR THOSE who say 'ive seen better drifting at local events' I call BS. First off, the entry speeds were hitting the same as west palm IRL event but with a much more narrow and unforgiving terms. Yes, the course looked REALLY easy from that video footage, I dont understand why I did so poorly after watching that, BUT THEN I recall going 60 into a narrow blind concrete jungle with a car I cannot afford to wreck. Anyone who has not driven an event such as this, or even with a less dangerous entry, has no room to talk. Sorry If I am comming off as a dick, but its easy to say people are doing bad until you are atleast THERE watching in person, or better yet, driving it yourself. Its easy to say 'I could have done that no problem" when your sitting on you computer. Lets not forget that hitting the course isnt even enough, you also must be hitting it as fast as possible to qualify.

Some REALLY good drivers have hit the wall in the last 2 nopi events, so before anymore of this 'better drifting at local events' crap comes up, lets remember: NONE OF US ARE AS GOOD AS WE THINK WE ARE.

Sorry, just kinda pisses me off...
