Vented Hoods ?

I got a question about vented Hoods thats bothered me for a while. So, if you were putting a vented hood on a daily your bound to drive in the rain right.

My question is, if water is such a big no no when it comes to getting on engines how do people with vented hoods deal with rain?

Do the hoods have some way of tracking the water away from vital components or do they just make the openings in places where the rain will just fall through?

I never would have considered changing out the hood but most S14 owners know how heavy those OEM hoods are. Plus I'd like the cooling possible with, an Origin Type II hood or vented hoods in general.

dude i take a presure washer to my motor every once in a while, the water is not going to kill the motor as long as you make sure that its not near the filter (intake) your fine.

I remember in my old car when I use to throw water on it to clean it would shut off and wouldn't come back on until dry. Mind you, the filter was completely sealed. It probably just got on wires or something anyway thanks.

i made a metal air box for the filter and im running the c-west hood on my wrx that has alot of vents in it....its been on there 3 years with no problems

yeah sometimes if they get on the on the plug wires where they plug to the sparks then yea you will have a problem, even through on a light. as for all the others i have put a silcone spray to make them water replelant, like hs2000 made by wurth or something simaliar.

It depends where the vents are. If they are over any major wiring. Chances are once the engine is up to temp it will steam off any water drops that hitit anyways.

I have a vented hood, but my new car is track only so its kept indoors...but my old S13 use to rock the same vented hood which was my daily for a while. What i use to do is put the hood on only for events...not only that, i use to have the stock hood for not only covering the engine bay from getting water but it covered my engine from being noticed that i had a SR under the hood....

I wouldn;t drive daily with vented hood unless if you want to make a custome FRP plate to cover the vented area for daily driving and you take the plate off during events!

Thats a good idea. I'll just have to see once I actually come around to getting the hood. I like this one...

It looks like the vent is too far back to be harming anything anyway.

that's a nice concept on the wind flow design origin came up with. I wouldn't even be worried about anything really hurting with the top area of the hood by the windshield, I would just leave it as is!!
