Using a Tripod

I was looking through some pictures from Gatebil

http://camillast.com/2012/07/weekend-2012-gatebil-rocks/

And noticed how in their 2011 picture Joe Ayala was using a tripod, when he is from what I understand just a photo guy, while Shreeves does the video work.

My question, how many of you use a tripod (or monopods) to photograph drift events and how did you use them? How much of a difference did they make?

I can't picture a tripod being useful, but a monopod yes.

A tripod takes up more space but id feel as if it would be easier for panning shots. especially with the rubber band trick. monopod obviously take up less space, but it seems like it would be a little more shaky in video. obviously a better for photos.

I'm sure that Not every shot is used with tripod but it helps out at times . If your arm is getting tired or maybe a certain angle or hight that you desire but can't manage to grasp when your not using a tripod . Or maybe feels comfortable using one . I personally have used tri pod at night because I can't manage to take one single good picture without one lol ( beginner ) and day time I try not using one but when I don't have my tripod I feel like I do need it .

Elliot I was mostly just speaking for photography, not video work.

Miami: The rubber band trick is hard to explain but instead of panning a shot while filming with your hand, you use a rubber band to get a smooth pan. Google it and you might find a video of someone doing it.

no way id use a tripod for moving photos they are very cumbersome and its nice to have a little extra movement with the lens. I use a monopod a lot lately they do help a lot. Video would be a different animal but I dont do video.

FAL and myself are around Shreevers and Joe at all the events and I've never seen him use a tripod, if I'm not mistaken joe will do a video snippet here and there
