To Drift a Miata...

should I do it? So I've been away from SFL for a while and drifting it seems like even longer. Real quick on why, money of course(no job at the time, and a roommate who took advantage of me being a good friend), I had to trade my rb20 car for a 2003 miata that had been totaled, but had lots of goodies: supertech built motor, 6 speed, torsen, and some other cool things, plus some cash to pay bills. FF, not front engine fwd, fastforward I have a 99 miata 109K miles, vmaxx coilovers and a hardtop I traded the 6 speed for.

The one on the left is the now totaled one I took in on trade and the one on the right is the one I just bought while it looked like this.

I traded the caged hatch I had, for a drift buddy in Melbourne to fix the miata damage. She comes home tomorrow and I'm not quite sure what to do with her. First thing is take some pictures with these 15x8 002's I have and see whether I want her to wear those or some brand new 16x8 513's a buddy has and will trade me wheels. Beyond that do I really turn this car into a daily driver and drifter? I have an 88 TII as well, and this guy who welds, that drives FC's is willing to work me a deal, TII shell for cage, I buy the materials and I plan to offer more than a helping hand in the fab work.
Other things I have left that haven't been parted out from the 03 miata:
Built bottom 1.8 Block .20 over Forged Rods and Pistons
Act Clutch, billet oil crank gear, arp head studs, all acc.
Custom tubular bottom mount t2 turbo manifold
FMIC w/ HKS SSQV
AEM FI/C tuned for 2003 vvt s14 t28 550cc injectors
Random interior bits
Black Canvas Top
2003 Front and Rear Subframes Complete

Sadly the 2003 front fascia stuff has been sold, as well as the torsen. Now I'm a turbo and injectors away from boosting the 1.8 that is in the car and I have the built bottom end on stand by, but have a guy that wants to buy it for $1500.
Basically its drift now and have a pretty nice daily driver with quite a few spare parts for, or sell it all and start an LSx something.
My current other vehicles:
2001 Dodge Ram (Daily) w/ a whopping 12 mpg
1995 Ford f-350 ranch machine. A real tow horse.
1988 Rx7 TII no motor

Man oh man I really want to build a v8 car, but I'm sick of driving my dodge everyday, plan to put it up for sale, but who knows how long that will take. Its worth more to me than what the market has to say.

to drift a miata you first need to invest in rainbow stickers. then, feel free to tear it up, lol.

jfwy, miatas are decent but unless you swap in a decent powerplant like you already prolly know, its 'long term' ability to compete is limited.

Yeah I was kind of hoping he would respond, especially since the other chassis I would want to build would be a e36.

its not as competative in stock form. if i remember correctly to get the much needed angle chelsea had to cut into the steering rack and add "teeth" to the rack itself to let it move more. also, it depends how much power you want but a miata can hold decent power if tuned correctly and with the proper drivetrain parts like 99+ diff with one peice axles and 6spd tranny which are known to be the strongest. it is a small car making it hard to complete the super long drifts...and it being a small car makes it snappy as hell making it a bit uncontrolable but in the end i will says this...the miata is probably one of the funnest cars i have ever had the chance to slide and one day i will get another one.

just do it bro youll have boost, cage, coils, and diff. Get some angle and your good to go

every time i go to orlando i see that silver miata
my friend knows the kid you got it from..he lives right down the street and he was telling me he got a hatch with an rb20,i didnt know it was yours!

The miata is in about 15 pieces. I picked it up today and with a quick wash

trying two different sets of sportmaxs on it, probably will be running 513's 16x8

Well as soon as I figure out a trailer situation and a good weekend to come visit its ready for you. I would take some pics of it and send you but the damn thing is so dirty it would look horrible. So do you want 1.5" x .095 or .120?

Does this make it any cooler
