The Future of Drifting in SoFla.

sorry zach I havent looked at this thread in a minute. But the insurance im not sure we had teamed up with d-faction and they covered the insurance

What is the status quo now?

Hey guys, new to the forums and new to the scene. My question to you guys is, where can you practice now legally? Do you have ANY tracks at all w/ in a 3 hour driving window? Or are there literally no tracks anywhere in South Florida that drifters can practice on for a reasonable price?

What is the cost of asphalt?

Does anyone know the round-about cost for laying down asphalt? If a new drift friendly track was going to be constructed, what would the cost of laying down enough road for it be? Just wondering (and how cheap can you make the road / or how expensive?).

I saw a drift special on ESPN, in So Cal. The track itself was just 1 mini oblong shaped piece of asphalt, maybe 100 feet long w/ a slanted turn. Perfect for practicing drifting... We need 1 or 2 of those in Miami... :D Maybe someone should buy a giant piece of land way out west of Miami, like a few miles past Chrome road, and see if a track can spring up there. Morosso is too far away to drive there a few times a month... Just to practice for a few hours... Besides, this little drifting track would be so small that you couln't get up past 60 anyway, so injuries and crashes would be minimal (thinking along the lines of insurance)...

My $ .02 anyway...

I wish it was that simple. Insurance is a lot more complicated than you think. For parking lot events you need a lot of protection for the drivers and spectators, especially the spectators, because nothing covers them from a car spinning out of control coming their way.

Buying property isnt too cheap either, and paving it properly is probably just as costful.

I mean, I would love to see it happen, but right now it's a lot better to just drive to orlando for events. You say you practice for "a few hours" but you have no idea how rewarding that can be if you put that time to good use. It's most definetly a worthy experience and you should try it yourself.

i work for an ashault company, hadrives. Lets just say to pave I-95 it about $10 sqft. thats not even the right material to pave a track with its much more then that and like Eric said. It all comes down to one thing no one in there right mind would ever give or "sponsor" an event or series with out anyone really going to the events. oh and it doesn't mean wait till the last minute to sign up.

you guys are lucky I have to wait till mar or april to slide!!! lmao well you know what i mean on the street not the snow...lol
