The Future of Drifting in SoFla.

It's a sad day indeed, the day that Ter-Tech has given up on the drifting scene in South Florida. If there are more of you that feel the same way and want to try to start a new movement and help support vendors like Ter-Tech and people like Harri. Post your response and lets try to set up a meet. I know I have been out of the scene and my shop is closed right know but I have some ideas and connections.

I'd love the So FL. scene to get up and popping! I think the mian problem right now is lack of locations to practice! We need to open some connections with Moroso, The Grey hound track where they auto X and even keep it up with Dania Hai Lia! Ill be all the help I can to support this!

I'm with you on this. I'll help any way I can. The only problems I see are getting people to preregister on time and of course places to actually practice as stated before. People will go to the events as drivers or spectors, we just need to share our passion with other people, the real "car guys." There are many people who don't know about drifting but will get hooked like most of us did when we were introduced to it. It would be nice to have Moroso or even Homestead help out so we can truely call it South Florida Drifting. The parking lot events would be great to, it can introduce people to drifting a lot easier.

I remember when I went to Homestead for the Drift Showoff a little while back, I was into drifting for about a year before that and when I saw it live for the first time I fell in love with it even more and gave me that kick in the butt to make my dream come true. I dont know about you guys but I never really had a passion for anything like drifting, it truely has become apart of me now. Sorry for the rant. My point is that if someone new to drifting goes to an event it might spark a passion in them also. The only way to grow is to share it with other people.

sign me up. im down to help the scene. lets get some contact numbers, owner of the lots number, insurance companies number, and also the number for the cones / baracades. lets get something in motion.

This friday night at the dunkin donuts spot u guys wanna talk then?

I'm down to meet up to see if people are willing to get something going. The usual Friday meet sounds good to me. Everyone cool with that?

Hey guys why dont you try to get something going for yourselves...we lucked out because the owner of the stafford track has been looking into it for awhile and when we got in contact with him he was very excited. Homestead speedway is most likely going to be like how limrock is for us. Very expensive and no real track experience. I remember someone posting back a few carting tracks in fl. Maybe you guys should try to get send an email to all of them and see the response, cant hurt to try.

Ill call Speed Indoor! HAHA J/K

Ya Ill do some resaerch when I get home. What kind of insurance does something like this Require Jones?

Im down! The lack of local practice locations is a definate problem. Not sure bout the majority of youth, but i've spoken to alot of people who dont got a clue as to what drifting is. Me being me of course, i try to describe using whatever small, hand held objects and elaborate descriptions i can use but the real thing is way better than anything i can do that's not actually getting in a car and sliding it for all its worth. Im just dieing to get my next 240... gonna have the coilovers for it befor getting the car so i dont run into the same understeer problem i encountered befor and im gonna try to get a 2 way Kaaz LSD for it too. I'll be at some events. Chances are more as a spectator tho. Till im KA-T i dont wanna spend too much money. But ill compete at an event or two.

Yeah I feel you on that. Its hard to explain what drifting really is. At one point I would have a drifting magazine on me at all times just to show them what it is. I think it would be good to of course talk to Ter-Tech since they have the most exprience. To make it successful we need more companies helping out and more advertising. It can't cant just be all Ter-Tech.

Moroso just the track is about $4500, insurance has to come from an outside company they wont insure drifting , EMT about $750 track workers which are from Moroso another $500 this all adds up before everything is said and done.
Miami Zoo would be a good location, but you have the place only till 5pm and what makes it impossible is that they require you to clean up ALL the skidmarks before 5pm. Imagine that .
Well now that I have given it a little tought we will have another event probably in Feb. 2006.
I was just so pissed of with the world after all the work we did for the event, it came crashing down in one E-mail.

glad to hear your not giving up

Same here I'm glad your not giving up on the idea. Yeah I talked to the people in Moroso awhile back that seems about right, very expensive. Well, keep us updated with any new info.

Yes, you're right. You guys need to seek corporate sponsorship, but in order for that to happen you need to work on your image as a respectable organization for companies to take you seriously. The guys at Ter-Tech did it by themselves along with some of their suppliers helping out for the prizes. Harri and the guys deserve a pat on the back for the effort alone not to mention the investment.

I'll should be all ready by February with a surprise if all goes as planned. I'm happy to see that Ter-tech isn't giving up quite yet. However, personally, I thought the July 31st event was pretty packed when I made it there --- I don't know about the others, but I think there's a following coming along -- with time, the future of drifitng down here could indeed pick up... keep in mind that not only do we have to give time for drifting to grow, but time for the newly exposed to understand, experience, and most importantly take a stand in drifting. I was honestly surprised that there were so many more FWD cars in the July event than the June 5th event, I believe there was only two. They coulda justwanted a crack at it, or maybe they thought I sucked and could do better, but that former fact definitely did stick out in my head.

I have the end all, be all solution. WAIT Thats it....just wait.....for 3f 3f, youll be turning people away from pre reg. :D
