Ok since I bought my 1989 nissan 240sx coupe is the 2400 liter 4cylndr. I was looking at my temperature gauge and it goes over 50%=half.

My temperature gauge stops at 70% or 75% more than half and it stays there. I drive my chevy truck or my mitsubishi and they all show me on my temperature gauge half way 50%.

You guys think i have to check something like my radiator or some of the fans not working right. Is probably the water pump i might have to replace it or the thermostat.

The car is 1989 240sx coupe it has 96,024 miles so I think i should do the timing belt change soon when it hits 120,000 or is better at 100k.

Whats the most common steps to check my engine and have it run properly good for the moment.

I'm going to do the oil change, i will drain the coolant fluid and put some fresh coolant, replace ignition wires, spark plugs may be NGK. I will have to replace the Head Gasket i guess since the previous owner never done it.

Any other tips i should check the coupe S13 89 engine for any problems, i never have a 240sx before specially the s13 so i don't know whats the most common problems it gives the stock non turbo 2.4 liter engine.

hope you guys can help me out in this one.

thanks.

S13's have stupid retarded tempature gauges, some S13 with ka's run just a tad under half way and some run over half way never right on 50%, the best way is to get a Techtom CMX-100, there only around 200 bucks and they display speed in DIGITAL mph, tempature, volts for the maf and injector max duty cyle....Im going to buy one very soon, they are very easy to instal, they plug into the ecu port...OB2 cars also read out timing and a couple other things.....

Sounds Good please let me know when you are about to do it.

Also whats the most common problems witht he KA 2.4 liter engine 1989 s13.
I mean what should i check on the engine compartment to see if its working properly, any other popular problems for the KA's Engine S13 89.
car actually has 96,000 original.

Having an S13 with under 100K miles is a HUGE find, Most KA problems are cooling problems waterpump, thermostat, the radiators are pretty good....check all water hoses theres a couple of heater hoses that can leak after they crack, easy to fix though and cheap....Coolant tempature sensors really arnt to bad there about 15 bucks at nissan, if your KA is running poorly thats ussually solves the problem. You might want to check to see if your Tempature gauge sensor is messed up maybe thats the reason why your tempature is reading the way it is....there are two sensors after the thermostat housing, one on the left is the coolant tempature sensor, which tells the ECU if your car is running hot or cold and helps adj for timing and fuel, now to the direct right of that is your Tempature gauge sensor, check to see if its connected and working properly.

Not to sound like a ****, but you seem to want to know alot, and want details, having a factory Service Manual is HUGE when working on our cars, it goes in great details n how to fix problems and how to repair them. They are at any NISSAN dealership for a fee.

The 240 has a timing chain not a belt... it's non wear part so you don't change it unless you are having specific problems with it.

Flush your coolant system and change your temp sensor, the one for the guage.. actually while you're at it change both.

even if it was a 93, 69,000 = about 5,300 miles a year. Really hard to beleive. There are alot of scumbags out there who change the gauge clusters for a quick sale. You can never be too sure

Damn, i want an S13 with under 100k all of mine have had 125-132 when i bought them.

haha mine has 31,731 original miles. and its a pignose white hatch!! $500.00 suckaaaa, just needs the front bumper painted and a fender. I'll post some pics up of it later for you to drool over mwahahha.

Anyway, back on topic, the timing chain should be replaced every 50,000 miles. sure they can go longer, but I'm sure you want your motor to go even longer.. especially if you are going to beat on it. Nissan recommends changing it every 60,000 miles if you drive conservatively. So make up your own decision about changing it. And it's a pain in the ***.

The shiny silver rockers/lifters/cams/ clean block tells me it was not used to much (no baked on oil) + 170-175PSI across the board aint to bad (new is 180)

Even if i hs more miles then the guage says, the engine is in great condition.

So you think the Timing Chain Should be Replace every 60,000 miles. my S13 coupe 1989 it has almost 96,500 original miles.

okay i drive a 87 FC and i was wondering if i should change my timing belt soon im at 120,000 miles

I would hope you guys dont have timing chains, you guys have enough engine problems already.

Also its not the timing chain it self that needs to be replaced its not a wear item unless its shredded to ****....the wear items are the tentioners....if you have the chain noise i would take off the top and lower chain guides there useless and nissan dsont even reuse them anymore....while your taking off your guides make sure your tensioners are sliding good, if not spray some WD40 and get all the gunk and stuff off of them, if there wore replace them...the timingchain will be fine, my car has 149K miles and still going strong...Also TAKE CARE OF YOUR MOTORS!!
