temp sensor problem?

ok well ive just had my swap done from a 91 ka to a 97 ka. my uncle finished it for me for xmas and it had a leak. he fixed it .. wen i got it back i took it out for a spin.. and temp went up!! like the car was heating. i turned off car.. checked radiator and the little gallon thing on the side they both had water. i turn it back on.. and am driving back to my house and all the sudden then temp goes back down to normal and everything is fine i went from miramar to 595 and university and back and no problems is this the sensor or wat?
 
Mine used to do that. There was a small hole in one of the hoses. Then, it did it again, the radiator cap wasn't sealing properly. A few weeks later it did it again, this time it was the thermostat, course it may have been that the whole time too...hope that helps...

yea i def. kno its not a hose becuase am not loosing any water wat so ever. and by wat my uncle said he changed the thermostat. cold it be loose?
 
I don't think loose would make a difference, but iirc you have to install it a certain way and if you don't do that then it doesn't work right...of course a bunch of ppl don't even run thermostats...but anyway. hopefully one of the more knowledgeable ppl will chime in soon. With the hole I had in my hose I wasn't really losing fluid either it was just enough so that the pressure couldn't build up and there was no flow.

well, if the thermostat hadn't been used in a while, it might've needed some extra time to warm up and open..


when pressure/heat builds up in the engine, the wax in the thermostat liquefies and it creates a passage for coolant to flow.. if the wax didn't liquefy quick enough, the engine might've run without flowing coolant for a few seconds, making the temperature shoot up.

you can check the condition of your thermostat by putting it in a pot of warm water on an active stove.. you should be able to see the thermostat opening/closing through the water.

but if it ran fine after the first incident, it could just be a "startup quirk"
 
or what can cause the radiator water/liquid to go back to the little tank???? i just found this out any help would be appriciated!!!! i just turned on the car.. and checked the level of the little tank and its at max.. in rev the engine a little.. keep it accelerated... i see the temp going up.. and then i go to check the main radiator hose on the top.. and its hard... so theres pressure? or water going thru.. and then i look at the little clear gallon and its almost full wat can this be??? anyone?

the little tank is just an overflow reservoir..

if the level in the radiator is too low, it sucks coolant in..if the level in the radiator is too high, it overflows into the reservoir.

with the engine cold, the radiator should be filled, and the reservoir should be close to max..
