subframe bushings

is there a trick to installing solid subframe bushings?
i got the spl ones and am having a hard time, they keep wedging and it seems as though the tops go in easier that the bottoms, so far i have 1 top one installed and would like some advice before i continue
 
Have you put them in the freezer overnight? It will shrink them a little bit. When I installed mine I had to use a pretty damn big hammer and a piece of 2 x 4 so I didn't damage the bushing.
 
yeah they were frozen for 2 days, im using a bolt to try and press them in but with no luck, one got cock eyed and the bolt dug into the bushing a little(not enough to care much about) so thats y i seek a better solution

is hammering these things in the way to go? seems like a real tight fit to hammer them in
 
It'll go. Just get a bigger hammer haha. Have you completely removed the metal inner lining that held the rubber bushing in?
 
of course, i did my research and have installed the full set of energy suspensio on my car, these things are being a pain i guess
 
Just checkin', yeah they aren't the most fun to install. But seriously, just try a bigger hammer. Where are you located? I might be able to give you a hand soon.

When I put mine it and it started to tilt like that, it started to get these burrs on the edges of the bushing. Make sure it's smooth all the way around the edges of the bushings.
 
im stumped, i dont think forcing them in sideways is the way to go, but ill leave it as a last resort

shortly after i posted i said fuck it and tried hammering one in, and before i knew it i was done, thanks for da help gibson
 
Any time man. Glad you got it done. When you go to put the subframe back in, get the nuts started, and tighten each one just a little at a time until it's lifted and set completely flat against the chassis. Otherwise it will bind up and go on crooked then be really hard to tighten up. Helps to have a friend and / or a few jacks to help hold it up too.
 
Dry ice is colder than regular ice and the freezer, next time let them sit in dry ice for a couple of hours and you will have to catch them from falling out the other side, lol.

thanks, before it goes up i have to remove an inner bushing ring that siezed on the rear driver side which is driving me nuts, its all cut up and has been marinating in pb blaster for 2days and doesnt want to budge, i would use a big hammer but if i broke the subframe stud id cry
