SR20 swap question

I had a question. I'm looking to get an S14 that's stock trans / motor and everything. To swap an SR20 in it, would i absolutely HAVE to get the whole drivetrain of the SR20, trans and all, or can i just drop the longblock to the stock trans?

Thanks!

Ahhh kk. so i'd have to get an SR20 clutch and a bellhousing that'd fit that motor and the input shaft is fine?

all nissan rwd manual trans have the same input shaft splines, shits wierd.

like you can use the alignment tool from a 89 hardbody to do the clutch on your 07 350z, thing its disk diameters that are all different.

but youd need the sr, bell, clutch kit.

same driveshaft.

oh wow... that's some crazy shit. Also, as far as SR20 goes, i've been looking at a few and some are posted up as "S13 sr20" and some "S14". i thought they weren't specific, the harness was. Am i wrong? Should i be looking for one specific to the 14 or any SR20 works?

dang,

years break the motors down to models.

like 90-94 is red tops
95-98 depending on what model car it came from, like in j town they still made 180sx new so it can be a black top s13(no vvl) and s14sr with the front hump and humpback valve covers.
99-02? s15 gangsta moneys, diff flywheel and trans, more of a pain to get shit for this side of the pond.

oh check this link<-- pretty nifty shit there boy, phew.

Ahhhh cool, thanks sir. I did some googling but a lot of information is scattered around. I just wasn't sure if the S13s SR20s would be just fine in the S14... and http://www.drift-connection.com/sr20det-specs.php says an S14 SR20 is more expensive cause of the vvt so i'm thinking to be looking for one without that if i'm keeping it on the cheap eh?

Thanks for the info bud!

Ahhh cool, good to know! I've seen a ton of write ups for the wiring. I think i have it bookmarked somewhere. Much appreciated once again!

Yea i think i'm gonna use the wiring specialties service to do the harness for me. I send out both harnesses and he goes to town. Plus while that's being done it'll give me plenty of time to get my engine bay cleaned and all that jazz.

cool, Yury is really really good, does excellent work and quick turn around time... he's helped me with lots of retarded wiring shit.

Sweet! I'm glad he comes highly recommended. I'm thinking about just buying an entire swap from JDMsouth and having him do my harness. I think it'll save me lots of headache.
