SR, Daily Clutch selection ?

Well recently i realized my clutch was going. I have been on the market for a good replacement clutch kit that can support future upgrades....may i say in the FAR future.

Anyway this is what i came up with....daily = sprung clutch, But recently a friend of mine swapped in a ACT HD w/ a 6 puck unsprung clutch and he says its very good and isn't for all race applications.

He also said if the spring in the clutch ever gets displaced, that would mean total loss......however I don't think ACT makes their stuff bad....

Give me your thoughts on a decent daily but race (track offcourse) inspired clutch kit.

I have a used Exedy Hypersingle. It is a blanced Flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch.
with 75%+ life left on the disc.

$1100 is RETAIL. I was asking $500 obo

holds up to 400hp.

not bad for daily driving, grabs well and never slipped on me.

I only replaced because I got a new HyperSingle.

I love this clutch and would highly recommend it, I just also happen to have one for sale haha.

i daily drive an XTD stage 3 sprung clutch. its almost 2 years old and grips great and doesnt kill your left leg. but its on a stock KA so idk if that will make a difference

Yea it makes a difference, It depends on how much Hp your putting down.....probably about 250 hp and your clutch will start slipping like crazy. I don't trust XTD clutches either..maybe their flywheel

i have both...

A act 6 puck, sprung, with heavy duty pressure plate, i have only drivin it a few times, car hasnt been running been in the shop for a month now and for the few times iv driven it, it hasnt been bad at all....

threw traffic and all that jazzz, now im not an expert but sprung vs unsprung i have no idea what the difference is:laugh:

Now in my z i have a JWT organic disc bla bla bla unsprung clutch( MY DD) and it isnt bad either, its perfect for w.e....

clutch pedal pressure is changed by the type of pressure plate u choose(so i believe correct if wrong) and whats to much and to little depends on the person....like for me id drive w.e there is a to much and to little to pedal feel tho and whats ideal and not.

research is a good thing! but exedy act jwt all good shit!

ohhh and idk if its a z thing but my unsprung in my z chatters! LOUD! lol
iv heard it has to do with it being unsprung but idk never cared to much...

GL with ur choice!

I Think no real moving parts so i can't go wrong with a unsprung clutch. Chatter is normal it happens to every vehicle I know with an aftermarket clutch. For th money ACT seems the best bet.

Nah dude chatter is much worse w/ an unsprung especially on a cold day. I had a Spec stg 5 in sprung and unsprung btw. Also the unsprung was more of an on/off switch. It took effort to smoothly get out of 1st.

I have heard many bad things about spec.
I really don't want to go unsprung, but its cheaper most people say its driveable.

Tony what do you mean when you say on and off switch ?

I have problems getting into first sometimes anyway, and alot of problems getting into reverse......but thats sr and ka trannies for you, or so i have heard and read.

I mean the clutch engagement/disengagement. There's not much of an ability to slip the clutch.

I heard bad stories about Spec as well - i believe they had some quality control issues in the beginning. Mine worked great though.

Right now Im not running a spec clutch. But previously it was called a 5 and then a 4 i think when they expanded their line. It was a 6-puck sprung the 1st time and a 6 puck unspurng the 2nd.

Does it slip, is that the reason you don't like it. Correct me if Im wrong but your talking about the exedy stage 1, organic clutch right ?

Yea i think that's the one i have. I can't remember. But yeah it slips and feels too pussyish for me.

*yeah, its a stage 1

LOL pussyish, wow, what a way to describe a clutch, how much power are you making? I remembered when i just had my sr I was slipping the hell out of my stock clutch at 10lbs. But that was almost 2 and a half years ago.

I was looking at the exedy stage 2 also...the three disc one...
