Speed sensor. WTH is it?

Hey whats up guys, my speedo stopped working out of no where. I'm thinking its the speedo sensor. I think it's connected somewhere to the tranny but I don't really know what I'm talking about. If anyone can tell me where it be at, I'd appreciate it.

On most cars it's located on the axle, or sometimes in the trans.

its the sensor with the longest wire coming out/going in and dont over tighten the bolt when you put it back in because it snaps VERY easily

u sure its not a fuse? My whole cluster stopped working and was cause of a bad fuse but if its only your speedometer then yea go with what you think:bigthumbu

Dude now that you say that, I had my gas tank full but yesterday I was driving and noticed that the gas gauge stays full. I know it's not full, the tach and the temp work but I'm starting to think the gauges to the left(speedo and gas) aint working. I'm thinking it's the speedo sensor but what the hells up with my gas gauge, it may be a fuse but my tach and temp work and the little lights at the bottom also are working fine.

fail thats not the speed sensor its the one below that on the bottom right hand corner most of the time this is reason for the speedo to quit i have a few in stock lmk.

haha...I just noticed the plug under the one i pointed out....My eyes played tricks on me dude, the older you get, the more you start realizing your getting older..haha

Bill is right, its the one right below the one i pointed out. Sorry bro, but before you go crazy with your tranny, check all of your fuses, inside the car and out under engine bay

check fuses first because when you take the speed sensor out bye bye tranny fluid....

yeah my speedo goes crazy too, good thing i read this before i decided to pull it and look at it otherwise there would be tranny fluid all over the place!!!!! hey bill i got an 89 hatch u got any for that? how much?

OMG this shits expensive as hell, cheapest I've found it for is almost $200. I think I'll be without a speedo for a while or forever, whichever comes first.

Its not the circled one it is the one below it the biogger cylender with 2 wire!!!
