With the recent economic crisis affecting all aspects of the industry, one sector to have survived are the various race tracks throughout the country. Not all have been lucky as we witnessed earlier in the year the sudden closure of Irwindale Speedway causing organizations such as Formula Drift to look for alternatives. Now we're hearing theres another track that will be closing its doors.
Countyline Dragway Inc. has just announced they will be shutting down effective immediately due to the financial troubles they have been experiencing as of late. With driver and spectator attendance down, Countyline Dragway Inc. has been operating at a loss for over a year now. Experts agreed this was only a matter of time as they have been tracking their financial performance for some time.
As you can imagine this sudden announcement affects all the sporting events that take place at the track, one of those being the drift events. Tim Murphy from Drift Sessions had this to say when we questioned him regarding this announcement, "I'm honestly just as shocked as you are. I didn't think they were doing that bad but hearing this makes sense in some ways. I'm just concerned with all the guys that come out to the events as they now have to go up north to drift legally. This is really a sad day for drifting in South Florida."
We will continue to update this story as more information gets out.
