Thank you, btw why s13 and not s14?
Ok I thought with a welded diff I wouldn't be able to drive around.

Go to a skidpad event. Ask someone there to ride along. Not drifting. Just driving normal. Then make the decision if you can daily with a welded.

I did for maybe a month and went through too many tires. About 200 miles a day. City.

And it takes self control. Wasn't a problem for me but rain sucked cuz it would push me to do stupid shit and fighting the urge got hard but I don't have hardly enough experience to drift on the street so i didn't try

Two main things. Tire wear and self control.

I have never noticed increased tire wear from a welded diff. But I don't recommend it to many times of spinning down the street in the rain.

Aftermarket control arms + proper alignment = little tire wear from welded diff.

But yea dont drive in the rain with bald tires lol. I was doing 360's on 595 a few weeks ago...

there is increased tire wear as the inside wheel (when turning) must match the outside wheels rotation. since the outside wheel is on a larger radius circle compared to the inside wheel. this is why you hear squeals on tight corners with a welded, its the inside tire skipping/skidding as its forced to turn more than its actually moving. this skidding increases tire wear of course. proper alignment and all that will help avoid even WORSE tire wear, but it cannot stop the welded diff's wear effects.

I understand where the wear comes from I'm just saying I never really noticed the much wear to worry about tire wear. I would be much more worried about driving in the rain.

Though when I Had a welded on the daily I was also the retard sliding everywhere I went so tires didn't last very long anyways.

Lol you guys are so helpful.. At least this dude is attempting to do it right. Listen to barefootdrifter. Get a welded diff or 2-way, good coilovers, and a decent bucket seat. You don't need a hydro ebrake yet.. Nor do you need shorter gears.

Thanks. I might have found a s14 shell w/coilovers going to see it tomorrow, will update.

The reason some may argue that you should start with an s13 is due to the fact that there are more of them on the road so spare parts for them are more abundant. Yes some parts between 13 and 14 are interchangable but not body parts, and since you are new; chances are youre going to wreck. Also, their is a myth that 13s are easier to drift.

I understand, but a shell with some parts (suspension, 5lug conv, 300zx brakes) for a good price will (hopefully) save me some $$$...

I'm looking around and still considering a bmw e30/e28 as a possible alternative since I drifted in a e30 for a bit. But the e30/e28 doesn't seem to be very popular here, engine swaps and work are harder and more expensive and I assume so are many of the other parts.

I never drove or ridden in a 240sx, but because of parts availability and because the 240sx seems to be the choice for many drifters it looks like the smart choice.

If you're interested in a race car. LMK

has a few more scratches since then, but nothing too awful. LMK if you want a price and would like to come test drive.
