rev limiter problem

this is my brothers profile but im having the problem with my car anyway...i have a 95 se ...does any one know what could cause my car to hit the rev limiter at 5500 instead of the actual red line. ive doen a complete tune up ive took out the gauge cluster and checked all wires from the ecu ive even swaped my ecu with mmy brothers ecu who has the exact same car. and we also tried swapping the maffs and still no change...does anyone know or has had this problem please help me out ... thankz

cluster calibration, if you have swapped the ecu's then try swapping clusters if you have the time.

See if you cant hook up another device to read the rpm signal, safc, snap on scanner . ect

What rpm dose the car idle at ?

tach is not reading correct, i dont know how.

it idles just below 1 but hits the limiter at a little under 5500 and does it in every gear even if you revv it up in neutral

and its a factory ecu? i dont know why the actual revlimit would be lower then spec.

I am guess the tach is not calibrated properly???

try a different cluster?

as soon as my brother coems home i will swap out with his...but should i swap the cluster alone first or the ecu and the cluster?

Make sure your coil is connected correctly. I had the same problem with my car in January right after my swap. one of my coil plugs wasn't connected. Usually when you have a problem with rev limit, it has to do with spark. Since you said you did a complete tune up i'd asume you changed plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. If you didn't do that do so before you start switching clusters. I'm pretty sure it's spark. Did you do anything to any ignition area before the initial problem started?

Change your coil also, that could have gone bad. They go for like $75 at autozone. Well unless thats an internal coil system. Hope it helped,

He has a s14 engine and it uses an internal coil. Your issue was probably blowing out spark with the loose connection.

just change clusters, no need to swap ecu's you have already done that.

ok this is my sn i was originally on my brothers because i ddnt have one...any way i switched the clusters and it still had the problem we also tried to switch the cluster along with the ecu and nothing it still has the problem...does any one know anything else we can try to do so i can get the car to hit the correct redline?

are your spark plug wires on in the correct firing order??.. change your spark plugs... check your spark plug wires cuz if they have hit the head by accident and burnt the plug wires it'll cause that, so just try swapping them out and see, if not, maybe your plugs are in wrong/not all the way/ wrong GAP???/bad plugs? idk, what modifications do you have done to the car? check your plug wires though.

ya there in the correct order ... ive checked them just about every time i pop the hood hoping thats what the problem would be lol...

but do they have any marks on them?? try swapping the plug wires with your brothers or new ones and see if the problem continues

the spark wires are brand new we did a complete tune up you know wires plugs cap rotor all the goods because when the problem was first realized we did the tune up then we called up jorge from jg auto and he sayed it could be fuel and spark so we checked all spark and changed the fuel filter...but we didnt see a difference it still hit the limiter at 5500

this may be a stupid question but i need to find out whats wrong with my car soo ima ask anyway...how can you tell if your injectors bad or do you have to just wing it and change them? if thats the cause of the problem

its the 5th gear speed sensor , its always thinking that the car is in fifth gear , just cut the speed limiter wirer to the ecu that will solve the problem. anyproblems contact me at spoolupracing.com

i dunno which wire, but if you have access to a AUTO S14 ECU you can use that and it wont recognize any of the speed sensors and still work fine with your car.
