STUTTGART, Germany: Porsche says one of its drivers was killed in a round-the-clock endurance test of a 911 Cabriolet on the autobahn.
Police say the 51-year-old crashed into the center guard rail of the A5 autobahn between Frankfurt and Heidelberg at 2:40 a.m. Friday. The driver, who had 25 years' experience, died at the scene.
Spokesman Dirk Erat says the road-endurance exercise was not a high-speed test, which are not done on open roads and the cause of the crash is unclear. He says the 911 was part of a test in which three drivers drove the car nonstop in shifts around-the-clock.
