It sucks being a drifter in Florida. You're either stuck driving to other states (sucks), driving ovals (sucks), or street drifting (sucks). Yay? I wish that air strip in Ft. Myers could be utilized for our purposes. It would be so perfect.

ok well i guess ill say what i thnk. street drifting is awsome in my opionion and i love to do it. if my car was running good i would have been more interested in checking out that track. but it wasnt at the time. it seems that no one really hates on street drifting but, for the better of the forum and getting approval to legally host drift events, it should not be so greatly announced to the whole world. know what i mean? it is cool to do it,talk about, and make vids of it. but show it to ppl outside of the forum.

pole positio - i hate the way this site is run and i dont like the admin on this site much either but i just put up with them because basically this site is one of the only ways for me to keep in touch with the friends i have made in this community. also its a way to firgure out what is going on around here with the scene. think about it if it wasnt for this site you wouldn't have meet the people that went to that track and drifted with you. see what i mean?

True, but that surface would still eat tires alive. lol I wouldnt mind tho.... that's 4th gear approved. :D

Has Ter-Tech never looked into using that field for drifting?

I was about to write another paraphrased bible but you said it better than I ever could have. You don't have to be anti-street drifting; lord knows I've had my share of abandoned parking lots, but respect the motivation and ambition (I emphasize that word) of this forum. I say be happy with what we do actually have, and please, if there's something you don't like, then make an effort to fix it. If you want tracks that are closer; start prowling and let the forum know so we can perhaps try to make it a legit event.

It's exactly what TurboDreams954 said. Street drifting should be a 'dont ask, dont tell' policy. Sure it happens and everyone here has their share of it. Just dont clutter the forums with it.

As for the new administration.... it just takes a post on the Forum Suggestion or a PM to express your opinion. Anyone that posts something in an educated manner will be taken seriously. Remember this forum is here to serve the community, so we want to do the best job possible.

That surface was smooth! It was easy on my tires and I did drift a bit while I was there (nobody minded).

Ter-Tech did look into it but I have no idea how much or what exactly happened. I don't think they found who owns that property.

www.gulfcoastautocrossers.com I think is the website. They would know for sure who owns the track.

I didnt see that surface as very easy on the tires, but I wasnt driving so I wouldnt know. Are you still up for hitting up the autocross? How's the first weekend of March (4th/5th) sound? Saturdays are the Test and Tune days so I'm sure they dont mind if we rape that track sideways. :)

You're about the only active moderator on this site and you're the only one who acts smarter than a 10 year old so its really not worth it. Just keep doing a good job yourself. Oh, Zak too.

I'm game.

The guy that runs those events won't let anyone else use the track. He's a stubborn old man who likes things going his way. Maybe a few years ago he would have had a different view on drifting, but since there are communities being built around the perimeter, they are starting to complain about noise and he "won't allow" it. When I autox'd there, I didn't "drift", but if the car got sideways, I didn't fight for control...i just went with the slide. :)

If the local communities are putting up with Caterham 7s with no sign of any exhaust emission, I think they can put up with tires screeching. It happens even at autocrosses.

I understand that there are regulations for starting at a certain time, so we dont wake everyone up out of their sleep... but come 9-10am and the tires shall burn.

Well, you'd have to convince that old dude of that. He's a bit of a "local celebrity" though and definitely acts the part. Also, they got those grooves in the track filled in especially for the SOLO II nationals that are held there. I'm sure he'd think drifting would ruin that at an accelerated rate or something. That place is his pride and joy. I really doubt he'll give it up.

BTW, if you're interested in finding out, I'm 90% sure the property itself is owned by the Lee County Mosquito Control District. I did some research on my own a while back and that was the best I could do. http://www.lcmcd.org/ if you're interested in contacting them.

I'll tell you what: drag Harri to the autocross on the 4th/5th and we'll all try to have a talk with him. Wouldnt hurt to try it out in person.

Tell Harri to call the finnish mafia and hold his family for ransom unless he accepts our demands :D

Seriously tho. I'm definetly down to go. I'm going to see if I can get some rear grip tires... havent had those in a while.

i dont know who the hell you are but you drive an FC so +1. I don't know of any secret drift team, so I should know. Or maybe I do know but too stupid to be aware of it. SFL drifters is not a club but it is a community. There's supposed to be no money or politics because 3 things break friendships: money, politics, and women.

The goal of this forum is also to expand the SFL drifting community. And some organization is required for that.

I support organizing to expand the community but not to turn into an organization where it requeires monetary upkeep and mandatory rules.

well to reply to all the posts about street drifting I know my posts have been rather negative about it in the past. Well thats mostly because I dont do it anymore at all, I have compltly sworn off street sliding, that doesnt mean that I haven't done it and done it alot. You gotta understand I was living in big pine key well most of you wouldn't be able to actually be able to find it on a map since really most maps the only keys that have names are key west, marathon and key largo. But big pine is one Of the largest islands in the keys and Its population is pretty low for its size so there is a good deal of roads with few people on them plus I was more than 120 miles from even homestead almost 140 hialeia and I made it up there to 5 events when they were having them I drifted in 2 and the reason i didnt drift the other ones was I didnt have any money but I still came up to support when ever I could.

I had been street sliding for about a year after I got my car but stupid circumstance (read: mother) I didnt have my liscence till I was 17 but I bought my car when I 15 so I was having fun on and off learning to drive the damn thing and pulling off slides near my house was a ****load of fun but since I wasnt even supossed to be driving the car damn I felt the pressure if i wrecked or got caught (Im not very good under that kinda of pressure) . I drove in my first event in nov 2004 and for those of you there you remember how much I sucked when I first showed up, damn it was bad and you know why cause I was never able to fully push my car on the streets mostly because of fear, most all corners in big pine are blind so I was always taking a really big risk plus loads and loads of trees to get screwed up on (that explains the front bumper on my old car) It was really nerve racking to me. But when I got out on the track there was no fear cause it was controlled surroundings I could really pay attention to what the cars doing you know be REALLY focused on it and I improved more that one day of track drifting than the whole year that I did on the street off and on.

After the track I knew exactly what I needed to do to the car to make it do what I wanted Big front tires new steering rack bushings and stratigicly remove weight from the car in key places (It was such a front heavy what with that v6 in there I couldn't remove weight from the rear, thats why it was full interior otherwise I would have gutted it) thats why i never fixed the front bumper hell thats why it was off all together. Between the nov event and feb event I street drifted like crazy all over the place I got a pizza delivery job so i would make money doing it to. At the febuary event I was 100X beter than before and I just went out there and had fun I beat my street sliding buddy by four places and he is alot better than I am on the street cause he has not fear on the street but nervous at the track. But I ended up blowing the car up and just basically killing it (if you thought this was a long post why exactly it died would be even longer) after that I relized that I should just have a seperate car for drifting (I lost my job cause i didnt have a car) and thats what the celica was supposed to be but then I street drifted that a little bit too and well somewhere I made up my mind that it wasnt worth it to street drift after 2 years I swore it off I havent street drifted in almost a year intentionally (you know it rains sometimes rwd car and all can... get... squirrlly) and I really have alot of good reasons not to start again I am blessed with a completely clean driving record witch I want to stay clean so I can get into MSAT after UTI if you have 2 moving violations your pretty much screwed even one its hard to get in so yeah.

plus I dont have a car to really street drift anyways thats why I got the supra to resist that temptation
but hell I went with daniel street drifting in his 300zx a couple weeks back and just watched while I instructed him (well tryed to :) ) and helped him get the hang of the car so im not totally against it but I would like to see it become far less frequent cause when we went out to find a spot we found 4 other cars sliding when we were driving around what if we had been a cop? would have been a pretty easy bust in my mind.

Piner, I mean.... I understand you have something to say about street drifting.... but why the autobiography? And is there a point in that whole thing?

I get the point that you do not street slide anymore, however I would like to see how that has anything to do with supporting the cause our like you said, your "rather negative" posts.

Franz, SFLDrifters has never asked any member for a single cent to keep the forum up and running. I dont see where you get the "monetary" part from. As for expanding the community, we want to have events going on here, and like TurboDreams and Alchemist have said it: We cannot have events if all we can show potential helpers (sponsors and whatnot) is a bunch of flaming posts, drift team wars, and street sliding (Old SFLD style).

i
m just saying it never has to be some sort of pay up or get out of SFLD kinda thing, just some rumors i heard here and there a long time ago. There should be dedicated drifters though who give their time and even money to help the sport on their own consent especially when we do our own EVENTS whenever thats gonna be ever..., I including (I've helped out ALOT of people here for free, well usually because I don't end up paying a cent at Denny's lol).

As for street drifting. I'm not saying you should do it, but if you do, be smart. I mean ti isn't very smart in the first place to risk getting caught by the po pos but still.
