And video: http://video.sportcompact.tv/video/894
I actually hit the course pretty good once or twice earlier in the day, too bad I'm sure those videos will never turn up..... So anyway, second practice session on Sat.. I think it was on my second run that I mis-shifted into 5th gear instead of 3rd. Car doesnt spin tires in 5th gear and I ditched the run.
Then I go out on my next run, a little faster up the hill and I bang third gear and dump the clutch, Oh nice... I got 5th gear again ( in the video you can hear the engine bog) but as I cut the wheel the car still broke loose, so I decided to try for 3rd again and maybe save the run. Well by the time I got it back in 3rd gear I should have scrubbing speed, but my low angle entry didnt scrub much speed, and for some reason I remember throttling again to try and keep the car sideways. I think I would have hit the wall no matter what.... but I don't really remember those last 50ft.
I've watched the video a hundred times by now probably and it looks like the car turns more toward the wall at the end. Also it looks like the bumps near the inner wall at the entry maybe started the understeer. Or maybe I corrected a tad too much..... I'm not sure.....
Anyway, the car is actually damaged a lot more than it looks. Both front frame rails are bent and I'm not sure how much. The car's x-brace under the front subframe might have saved it a bit, but it will definitely need pulling. Hopefully my friend can make it straight.... I really don't want to build a new shell with the cage and everything.....
Oh, and greetings from London!!
Lewis Hamilton on pole today... Kimi 2nd on grid... hope he gets Lewis into the first turn!!
Cheers,
