To coincide with the completion of a new car for the 2013 Formula Drift season, GSR Autosport Racing is partnering with Bilstein suspension for both sponsorship and technical assistance.

Having previously campaigned a V10-powered BMW 3 Series and more recently a BMW Z4, the team will be moving to the E46 BMW M3 chassis next year as part of its on-going development program. Michael Essa, co-owner of GSR and driver of the #101 drift car explained: "As the sport continues to progress we needed to make changes to keep pace with the top competitors. With increasingly higher speeds we needed a longer wheelbase for more stability. The E46 wheelbase is 9" longer than our Z4."

Bilstein and GSR have worked together to build Bilstein Motorsport MDS (Modular Damping System) dampers specifically for this drift application. "Much of the mechanicals carry over from the Z4, so we have good odata to start from," said Dirk Walk, Sales & Tuning Product Manager at Bilstein. "We'll provide engineering support for the GSR drift program and the data we will collect during testing and throughout the season will give us the ability to adjust the suspension rapidly."

"We're excited to be working with Bilstein on our drift program," said Nick Richards, President of GSR Autosport. "We have a lot of experience with Bilstein products from our road-racing and street tuning business. The products are second to none when it comes to outright performance."

GSR Autosport will debut its BMW M3 at the first round of the 2013 Formula Drift season in Long Beach, CA on April 11-12, 2013.

Yes sir! Two e46s in 2013 gonna be sweet! I wish I could get the coil overs that mike essa will be running this year

If Essa was gangster in the Z4, I can't imagine a longer wheel base car where he can really get aggressive with his driving.

Do you not remember what he did with the even longer wheelbase e92 he had?

I don't know either but whatever. They'll be using the same s54 that was in the Z4 only difference is they are building the bottom end with plans to push 760whp or 800 :driving:
