living in Japan...

i lived there when i was 6 months old and left when i was 3... my parents said it was really hard for white people to get jobs strictly due to the language barrier, also, it is extremely expensive and extremely cultural... their respect for life is completely different than here... my dad just got home while i was typing this and he told me that you will never find a job outside of teaching and what not... most of the americans over there are either teaching or in the military... no real in betweens. my brother was born there and our family is contemplating a trip to japan just to see where we once were as i have no recollection of it... my mom said aside from lack of work off the military base, it was absolutely gorgeous and beautiful. she said she would go back if she could get her salary here over there but that just never happens..

on a cool side note, my dad prior to my life in the 80's was in iwukuni japan, and had a child scare with one of the local girls, blasted around the mountains in a classic silvia. him and his friends would destroy the water parks there, and all the japanese girls would watch them do flips, and jump from slide to slide suspended like 50 feet in the air... crazy

when we lived there my parents bought a 72 skyline and i am to this day mad that they sold it... lol, but my dad said that shit was falling apart from rust when we had it... so get over it...

japan sounds amazing, and beautiful but does not seem like a comfortable life for a white boy!

I lived there for 10yrs growing up. I attended Japanese JHS until I was in my Junior year in HS then got back into the DODDS School system. I was a military brat and had such a great time there growing up. The best jobs like most have said aside from working in a corporate job here in the states and getting transfered is teaching English. My mom was able to get a Job working for NOVA English School and then worked for a Juku building their English program by incorporating phonics to have a better English teaching structure.

Japanese are taught English from 6th grade all the way until HS graduation. They have an extensive understanding of English but have little to no conversational capability unless they become uninhibited by drinking. I myself would love to go back someday because I have alot of friends that I miss there.l

sup man, i hope you get to at least get there for 3 months at minimum. Tokyo is the worlds most expensive city.
