leaky fuel tank

ok well I found a huge problem a few days ago on my car.
it all started with the car reeking like straight gas. didn't think to much of it, I was thinking maybe cuz my car was running a bit rich. boy was I wrong. I wake up the next morning with a puddle of gas next to my car.

so I found a crack on my gas tank, right were the strap is. which I heard was not uncommon. so my question is. is there any way of fixing this with out replacinging the tank.

will jb weld seal the deal?? (as a temp fix)
 
they sell something called jb water weld. ( works under water ) take off the strap clean with brake cleaner then apply the stuff. Works awesome! i did it yesterday.


its patented green to white technology lmao.
 
crap!! well i tried the jb weld already. i sanded the crack to rough it up good for a better contact. the i cleaned it an i applied the jb weld on it. its been drying over night. its hard as hell now. i just checked on it. but i wanna know how well is it gonna hold up against gasoline.

if it dont work ill try an remove the jb weld some how an try the water one u speak of

It won't work. Your just putting a Band Aid on it. If it is Cracked and you did nothing to prevent the crack from spreadin, i.e. drill a hole on either end of the crack so the crack can not spead, the vibrations will just make it worse over time. You maybe able to weld it but it is extremely thin and ofcourse you have to get all the fuel out first. Just buy a used one.
 
i was looking into getting another tank, but the people parting out are not willing to pull there tank, cuz of the hassle

so then the whole jb weld thing wont work at all??

well no welding plastic!! i used aircraft model glue. its perfect for plastic. just clean the area really well and take a peice of plastic ang glue that shit on. i had todo this on my daily. its been working good for the past 5 months!

yeah that plastic glue idea sounds like it works but i dont really want to be depending on some glue an hoping i dont spring a leak. lol

i just gave up on the whole fixing it idea, ima just look into getting myself a new one
