Lap of Nurburgring

Sean Love

.
I went last Monday and my friend John (Neurovish on here) split the price of a rental 318ti with me. Sucks we couldnt get a car reserved on the weekend cause during the week it's only open to the public for about 2 hours (5-7:20pm). Anyway, we each got 3 laps.

I got kinda lucky cause I was the last car allowed on track so it was all clear and I was able to really get into the rythym of the line. Normally there are so many motorcycles that it's a pain in the ass. They all think they are Valentino Rossi on the straights and blow by you with ther 160hp/500lbs, but then they turn into little girls in the turns, and fuck up your line.

Anyway, here's the ish:

In a word: Beautiful! I <3 Teh Ring!

BTW: Why did you hide the camera when passing that work truck? No Cameras allaowed?

Yea man, if I didn't say it before, thanks a TON for the help with that. Turns out they DID change my PIN when I was reissued the new card. I was able to have someone go through my mail and get it for me.

The trip so far has been pretty badass other than thing's costing WAY too much.

Tourist season + bad exchange rate + no time to plan things = monetary butt rape.

Trying to just take the rest of the trip slower and hang with all the homies in Finland. I'm headed there in 2 days and Hannu lives there now, Harri is there on vacation and all my old roomates have moved back, so it's gonna be drunken party reunion at the WRC rally Finland in 2 weeks!!! WOOT

As far as the 'ring is concerned, it's really awesome. I mean we all know it is and I personally have driven thousands of laps in GT4, but I was afraid I might be disappointed by it in real life. That absolutely did not happen. It's just like in the game except the elevation changes are more intense in real life of course, and there are parts where you get fully weightless coming over hills while cornering, the car shifts and wants to slide just as it plants back down and grabs. Steep downhill sections where your ears pop, and fast sweepers where you don't lift for like 40 seconds straight.

I nearly hit revlimiter in 5th a few times NOT on the straightaway...

It's fucking intense, seriously while you're driving parts of it you're sitting there thinking "whoever designed this was insane". The barriers are just as close as in the game, but much scarier to really FEEL how close they are and to realize you could easily make a mistake and go off at over 100mph with only 10-20 feet of run-off.

Blah blah though....... anyway one of my lifetime experiences is now checked off, but I hope to come back some time.

Yea, it was John filming, but the guy from Rent-racecar said that they don't like seeing cameras on the 'ring anymore because of recent crash videos being posted on the web. I guess bad publicity. Whatever though, it is what it is, definitely a dangerous place. Maybe they just dont want to lose the tourism.

cool video damn poor 318i. they rent those at the track or what?!?!!
i have yet to jump of a plane, drive on The Ring and do two chicks at the same time among many others :D

really cool sean. good driving. I never thought I could go and drive on that track in real life, and you did. Id love to do that.

did the car ever start to get hot? how was brake fade\recovery?

Car ran fine for the hour and a half or so we had it. I was going kinda easy on the brakes just because the 'ring is so unforgiving and I didn't want to ball up someone elses car.

The best ride of the day was from Theo (owner of rent´racecar) in his street GTI. He said he was taking an easy lap just to show us the track and yea, he didn't use some of the curbs in areas where you can drop a lot of time over the apex's........

...... but holy shit, if he was taking it easy then I don't want to ride with him when he pushes it, or at least it better be in a full cage car with helmet, hans, etc etc haha

weightless and sideways in a FWD car...... wow
