oh boy, so within the next two weeks i'm picking up another car..

for some reason i'm picking up another 3rd gen rx7 hehehehe. salvage title, basically rolling shell, nothing on it or in it. got it for reallll cheap less than 2k.

best news is, i already have half the ls1 swap parts waiting :bigthumbu woot.

it might take a while, but within a year... there will be a monster ls1 fd drifting with you guys.

i'm excited. so so excited haha.

lol i already have one rotary rx7. why not have an ls1 rx7.

you gotta balance and counter hehe. that way when people say "oh well its not an rx7 since it doesn't have a rotary" i can just go

"oh yea i got one of those too!" lol

also.. i cant handle having another timebomb around. those engines are too fragile.

somehow mine hasn't blown yet. but i love the chassis so much on the fd, and i think the motor is amazing for its output from how small it is. but i want a track car thats more reliable. and i cant imagine myself in anything but a 3rd gen.

so i'm mixing power with teh sex.
thats a rare thing to come by, not to many people witness it.

some people call it uberawesomenesscrazypowersaur

its a rare breed

fragile? i have never seen a car (your fd) take such a beating and still keep going. your car is a trooper. anywho it will ge cool i guess to see the ls1 in there. gl with the swap and i cant wait to see the rare uberawesomenesscrazypowersaur lol

Rotaries are fragile. Slight detonation, overheating, or a failed seal (not just apex) can spell the end for a rotary. A good ole v8 makes a lot of sense.

Cool project, keep us up to date! :bigthumbu

I never really noticed rotaries to be fragile, they routinely go over the 100.000 mile mark. The only time I really hear about rotaries blowing up its either because the person jacked the boost up on there 10+ year old tired engine or pushed the limit one too many times (boosting more then their fuel mods let them)

There is something weird about a v8 in an rx7 but I wont lie, I would do the same, only with a LS1 though. They only weigh a litte more then the rotary due to their aluminum design which keeps the weight distribution near stock.

exactly. point being...

1. only a 60lb difference in weight between both engines
2 ls1 puts down alot more power and torque with a lot less work
3 ls1's are much easier to work on and rebuild
4 without a twin turbo sequential setup i wont have to worry about the 60+ vacuum lines (when you get a leak its a bitch to find where lol)
5 reliability
6 gas mileage. sounds crazy but ls1's get 20 mpg stock.. my car gets 13... (running rich ftw)
7 staying n/a wont have to worry about boost leaks, lagging, turbos detonating or anything just instant and constant power.

you really cant go wrong the only reason most people stop from doing this swap is just from their taste in cars or the funds.

contrary to what most people believe my car does not get beat on. when im' driving my car it has never hit the limiter except a few times on accident at an 1/8th mile track.

motor and turbos only have about 11k miles on them, and i keep them maintained constantly.

the only thing beat up on the car is the paint job, which i could care less about.

when i'm at actual events i get on the car a little, but when i'm messing around... ask noel, josh, giacomo and all them when i drift the kart track my car is lucky to see over 4,000rpms.

the motor and turbos were paid for out of my fathers pocket, which i'm extremely thankful for and i've been paying him a few hundred a month for the past year, and i will be for a while. since he pretty much funded this car i try to take care of it and maintain it.

the body doesn't matter, maybe in a few weeks it will. its finally getting painted and all the body work done in a few weeks, getting painted satin black w/ gold flakes.

and the paint job is free. just gotta buy the beer for the guy lol

gangster :bigthumbu Normally i dont like the v8 in a 7 idea either but in this case its badass because the car is nothing but a shell and you already have a rotary one, its the best of both worlds not only do you have TWO FDs when most of us have none yours will both have different badass engines....go for it dude and post updates :D

yes it'll probably take a while for updates, i tend to wait til the last second for shit. the seller is acting like a douche today, so if he ends up backing out i'll just buy an fc shell, i know someone who will probably give that to me for free or a small fee.
