How not to drift

sean, wtf. were you down 2 cylinders? Did you mess up on the spindle mod? What was the reason for that? Was that you driving?

190hp plus a clutch that wouldnt hold even that............

I was overdriving the crap out of the car, trying to use the curbs to keep it sideways, but that just made the car understeer...... you can see it in especially video 4, the Qual1 video.

I also got really frustrated on that run. Going down the hill after just sucking, I was just yanking the wheel for no reason wanting to punch something. You can see what happened when I overdid it.

Hard to tell in the video, but from the end of turn 1 to the apex of turn 2 is about 8-10ft uphill elevation change in like 50-60ft distance. Car just would not do it. Oh and notice what happens when you hear clutch kicks....

Verdict? I think I need more power and a real clutch.

On the bright side, the awesome guys at Maximum Motorsports weighed and corner weighed the car for free. She's down to 2740lb with full AC system. And pretty good corner weights too.

ya ya, because thats not acceptable. I heard the clutch, it just sounded so bad i thought it actually grabbed and you were out of power to keep the tires spinning. :ugh:

next time.

Damn sean... Was that the same clutch disk you used at Orlando? Cause that thing was beyond dead even for that low speed event.

Sean, I'll never understand your methodology - but for God's sake, change your clutch! <3

Those were some aggressive entries btw. It's obvious your were pushing it.

Do you mean me going to Ohio with a 190hp car ? I was registered so I had to go and I intended to have the car turbo, but I wasted time and in the end it didnt work out... should have brought clutch with me and changed it in Ohio though.

wow that sucked i think if you calmed down a bit you would of done better you got out of hand a bit there learn how to do it for fun and everything will be a bit easier for you.

some days, the grass is a magnet...trust me i know...

wow, i havent ever seen you fight your car like that bro... this was already brought out, but your entries were ballsy as hell for a car giving you so many problems...

get your problems fixed and go back out there and rip it up, dont let it get to you, just faulty equipment, everybody has been there... i know it sucks b/c it was a big event but learn from it and have fun...

Well these runs were on Friday. Thursday we got a 30min practice session which was 4 runs for most of the guys. It was 2 runs for me because I was fixing a few issues that tech didnt like.

When I got on track though, trying to drive smoothly just wasnt doing it.

Yes it was a big event, but I dont really get nervous when I drive. I do know how to drive and I got aggressive because I had to.

It was pretty much 'go big or go home'. Problem with that is the course was FAST and on top of that, it was blind. The second turn you couldnt even see the end of the curbing when you entered, much less where the track went. Come over that hill more than 5ft off line and boom youre off-track and mowing grass! I actually kept it on track more than most of the guys.

I've decided that it was ultimately the clutch. Yes I need more power, but if the clutch had done its job I could have limped through it.

Oh well...... next time I suppose...
