How do you hardwire your fuel pump to the battery?

So ive looked this up and couldnt find an exact answer and this is what ive come up with, I just wanted to make sure that this was correct for using a relay.

Terminal 86 - Ground
Terminal 30 - Direct to battery with inline 30A fuse
Terminal 85 - B/Y wire from pump (trigger)
Terminal 87 - Other end of B/Y wire (trigger)

I think this is correct just unsure if i have the trigger wire correct.
 
Can I use any switched 12V source as the trigger? The B/Y wire was not working so Im guessing that I am losing the signal somewhere, but when I connect it to another source it works fine. I just wanted to check if this was ok to do.
 
Its ok but the reason oem pumps don't run all the time is so just in case you get into an accident and their is a gas leak gas doesn't keep pumping all over the place.
