Hialeah's last lap

Hialeah's last lap; VID & PICS

Taken I think February or March of this year, went by the track while I was in Miami and the back gate was open. Heavy equipment everywhere, everything was torn down except the track itself and the walls that loved everyone.

Drove into parking lot and looked around. Then driving down the access road to the actual track entry a guy in a truck coming the other way stopped. I explained that I used to drive at the track and just wanted to make a last lap before it was torn down. He was cool and said no problem. He also said they were just waiting for soil samples to come back before they demolished what was left.

When we were done taking the pics and video, there was already a big digger crane headed out to the track itself.

I haven't been down there since, but I guess it's all gone. Someone get some pics to add to this thread.

Lowes or noise or the Goverment has nothing to do with Hialeah Closing down.
It was all your fault. You Stopped comming. By you, I mean everybody who says that they use to go as a kid.
The last 3 years they averaged 350 people per race/Saturday night.
Changing demographics and poor marketing(despite my best attempts and guiding them) Killed Hialeah Speedway.

A business only fails if the people behind the business fail to offer something the public wants. Hialeah couldnt provide that with their races. It was never the public's fault.... they just lost interest. So in some way... it's your fault for your "guiding" marketing strategies. Drifters helped it stay alive by bringing in an extra revenue... and as far as I'm concerned, it was all DGTrials and Ter-Tech, who you love to point the fingers to blame them for failure and not trust worthy.

The fact that Hialeah was about 15 years behind on maintenance and looked like complete dog shit could have had something to do with it too.

I agree that Hialeah Speedway was managed terribly its last 6 years.
Their problem was that they never listened to me.
I told them to clean up and fix the bathrooms.
I told them to splash on a new coat of paint.
I told them that half the town thought that Hialeah had already closed so they needed to advertise.
I brought them DG-Trials and Terr-Tech
I was the one who brought 3000 people in the stands for Drift-Miami!
Every Article in the Miami Hearld about that place was because of my efforts. TV as well.
Except for Drift Miami I never made a dime off that place. In fact they still owe me money. (Not enough to really worry about).
My Partner made money there by taping all the races and selling the DVD's to the racers.

And why hasnt anyone given you any recognition? Or why have you not further tried to help the drifting community?

By the way, the only Herald article I've seen on Hialeah Speedway and drifting was brought by me, on South Florida Sideways 2004, in which I have all the e-mails discussing with Tom Fiedler (the editor) and his reporter, arranging the event. And when I introduced the subject to them in October of '04, they were completely unaware of what drifting was. I also have the paper printed the following Monday, where South Florida Sideways came out on the front page of the Metro section.

Yeah, he's giving himself waaaaaaay too much credit. I know a lot of that is BS. Who cares anyway...let him think he was the mastermind behind the drift scene in South Florida and because of the drivers, Hialeah is no more.
