my dad has a 97civic and today i notice that the car was off and the brake lights were on.. and they wont go off, any ideas. or shit i should check..

on the brake pedal itself, towards the top of it theres a little switch. on the brake pedal theres a white plastic stopper. the stopper is either missing or the switch is bad.
