It's official. Toshiba just made a statement saying, " it will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders." Cessation of the player and recorders are targeted for March 2008. Volume production of HD DVD disk drives for PCs and games will end in the same time frame. However, Atsutoshi Nishida, President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation did say that Toshiba will, "continue to assess the position of notebook PCs with integrated HD DVD drives." That's it folks, the format war is over, Blu-ray has won.

Don't know if anyone cares, but I figured I'd post it either way.
 
wtf!! just bought a toshiba a30 from best buy....200 bucks.. it was a good deal however...i got 2 movies in with the player 300 and bourne identity ...then picked 2 in the store for free..and i got 5 movies coming by mail..so i guess the 9 movies paid off the player....any info on whether hd movies will continue to be made?

Ya HD DVD and Laser Disc will still be made. Along with 8 Tracks.
 
well now i have my reason to buy a ps3, since you know...gt is coming out :p
 
I still don't think blu-ray won anything other than an overpriced, unnecessary format war. Its Sony so it will more than likely fail in the long run. I could be wrong...we'll just have to wait and see. :D
 
I knew this since day one, it was obvious :D

Sucks I just got rid of my 80gb ps3, but oh well. I can always get another

They've discontinued it as well. So the 60gb & 80gb are gone for good from stores. They are coming out with some new shit now like the 120-180gb ps3 or the all rumored PS3 Slim (something like the old PS2 Slim)
