I pulled my pump sending unit and found the strainer to be black (not close to being black but BLACK!) My first question : How do I rebuild this unit? Besides the strainer and the pump what will I need and how do I do it? I don't want to half-ass this, I want it fixed and done with but I have never played with a sending unit before and I'm a little rusty on where the check valve is (in the pump?) and if this vehicle has a pressure valve in the unit (I doubt it). Any and all info you can give would be awesome.

take the sock to a parts store tell them give u a new one. and if the sending unit isnt working order a new one or junk yard.
I'm going to get the Walbro pump/kit, comes with everything I need(I think), expect the tank O-ring. I'm just not sure how to check if the unit is good or not(I guess check the circuits for unwanted resistance and see if the variable resistor works correctly?), or how to go about taking it apart(don't want to screw it up, looks delicate).

? put gas in it if it works it works if not throw it away and get a new one
