For all the 86 lovers out there...

Owning your own brand of tuner parts certainly can have its advantages. It’s therefore no surprise that Lachlan Wen of 999 Automotive and K.L.S. in Brisbane has a rather special personal car, bearing all the tasty fruit.

Lachlan’s AE86 Toyota Corolla

This venerable little hachi-roku started off life in the hands of an older, distinguished gentleman who works for Channel 7 in Brisbane. We are sure the twisty roads of Mt Coot-tha provided ample entertainment for the daily commute over the years. However, recently Lachlan purchased the Corolla, and proceeded to tear it down, breathing new life into its tired muscles, brittle bones, and smoothing out the wrinkles.

The thorough transformation started with pulling the car to its myriad pieces. The engine went to 999 Automotive for rebuilding and being stuffed full of goodies, while the body was rolled to Jetspeed for surgery.

Jetspeed’s work included removing rust, spot welding for extra strength and decreased body flex, and crafting on a full J-Blood bodykit. Wider, vented front and rear guards were almost compulsory for this car, giving a close-to-OEM appearance. The all-metal front guards were widened and flared by hand rather than the customary fiberglass, and are in D-Max style, perfectly matching the shape and lines of the hachi. The car was then sprayed in gold, which so effectively shows off those beautiful lines. Rare Kouki (late model) redline tail lights replaced the standard ones, while a HID kit was crafted into the headlights for increased visibility, and that crisp blue light.

Engine-wise, the breathless 4A-C was pulled out, thrown against a wall and set on fire, and replaced with a rebuilt, strengthened 4A-GZE from a late-model Sprinter. In the engine, everything is forged, coated, and of racing-spec – pistons, rings, rods, crankshaft and bearings. HKS valves, springs, camshafts and gears are used to keep the mixture flowing in and out of the cylinders. And what pumps that mixture into them? A Garrett disco-potato (GT28) with a GT30 front wheel of course!

The engine is mated to a massively strong W58 Supra 5-speed gearbox that will take any amount of punishment the 4A can produce. A custom tailshaft made by Drivetrain Services and Cusco 2-way LSD transfer power towards the ass of the hachi. For show, the 15×7†wheels are made by Konig, and have 225/50 rubber on the rear, and 205/50 on the front. A set of genuine Watanabes also belong on the car, and are used for performance duties.

.........-_-'........giacomo's car w/ stock b/t >(greater than) ^(that thing)

^^^ Why thank you ;) . Its not that bad. I would say get some nicer wheels(Work, SSR, Volk, etc) and go lower on ride height and it would do it more justice.

i am sorry, but grizzly's 86 will always own my heart. if i can find a pic i will post it. drumfunken may have a photo, it was his roommate's car. seriously, it was a beauty. wide body, on its nuts, gold and carbon fiber hood.... it was just sexy. without a photo i will never be able to describe the beauty of it.

that 86 needs a lot done to make it sex on wheels....like new wheels would be a fresh start.
