RallyCross Season Ends with Double RallyCross, Double Points and DOUBLE HEAT!!!
Saturday recap.
In recognition of its success the Florida Region of the Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA) Florida RallyCross Championship was awarded the opportunity to host a Divisional RallyCross this past September 23rd & 24th at the Homestead-Miami Speedway and neither the Fans nor the competitors came away from the event disappointed.
Saturday started with a rare chance to test and practice your skills in a test & tune session. This short course was used to good advantage by many as the times later in the day would soon show.
When the dust was finally settled at the end of the day Winston Crosbie in his Subaru scored the overall victory by edging out Mike McIntosh by 4.8 seconds over the 5 runs. Amazingly Winston and Mike and his Subaru Impreza tied for the best time of the day with equal 2:31.2 runs. Winston also took home the victory over Mike in the Modified 4-wheel Drive (M4) class with Dunker Felix finishing a competitive 3rd.
With his win Winston held on to a slim chance to catch Mike McIntosh for the M4 Class title the next day.
Jorge Valdivieso once again showed how he is in a class all by himself in the Prepared Front-wheel Drive Class (PF) by cruising to a win by 26.6 seconds with a combined time of 13:57.6 over Alfonso Lopez with a time of 14:24.0.
In Prepared All-wheel drive(PA) Charles Theocles was the only competitor and set an incredible time of 2:54.0 seconds in his first run, but alas, fate was not on his side as he had to retire with a blown out heater core in his Audi.
Chris Casale once again continued to improve his skills in his Nissan 240SX with an impressive victory in the Prepared Rear-Wheel Drive (PR) class despite driving with the flu.
Saturday’s RallyCross featured 35 racers with most running the stock class.
In Stock All-Wheel Drive (SA) Jonathan Godinez in his Subaru WRX used all of his talent to try and recover from a poor first run but could not catch Greg Soutar also in a Subaru in spite of setting the fastest run of the day in the class with a time of 2:39.6. Alex Valdes finished over a minute behind Greg Soutar to take 3rd.
With his win on Saturday Greg Soutar closed to within 1 point of Jonathan for the SA championship setting up a showdown for Sunday.
Andrew Lewis in his Acura shocked everyone with a combined time of 13:50.4 to take the Stock Front-Wheel Drive (SF) class. A time that bested many in the Prepared and Modified Classes. Chris Harris took home 2nd and Nicholas Martinez came in third in his Mitsubishi Mirage.
No Surprises in the Stock Rear-Wheel Drive (SR) class as Link Eveleth in his Beautiful Porsche RS won by over a minute. Mark Morais came in 2nd and Derek Souter finished 3rd in his Ford Mustang of indeterminate pedigree.
With his victory Link slipped into a slim 2 point lead over Mike McIntosh for the overall championship.
At the end of the day all were tired but nobody even considered skipping to action scheduled for the next day.
