More than just top 4.
The year I went, when it was one national event, (last year had seperate east and west finals) they did friday practice. Saturday was Amateur qualifying and top 16 tandem competition only where top 4 got license and top 8 got provisionals i think. then Sunday was any Pro who didn't earn a point that season with the amateurs that scored a certain score saturday qualifying, all thown in to requalify and top 16 got provisionals and top 8 got full FD I think.
It was a lot more than just 4 total for sure.
